I am in the process of pickng up a LH tikka t3 in 270 wsm. Its for my son whos 11. My initial thought was to rebarrel to a prc or saum as he has shot a saum and a 280ai with a two hole directional brake with no problem at all and think the 270 wsm may be a bit much for him. I want a caliber he can grow with and use for deer antelope and occasional elk. Hes proven to be a good shot and has an interest in banging some steal too so not sure which way to go. Another thought was just add a brake to the wsm. Any thoughts? If rebarrel will go to a proof or HC carbon and a mcmillan stock..thnx

Why not try the 270 WSM you can run anything from 110-150 gr bullets Same as a 6.5 SAUM. I have both and they both do an amazing job. The 270 WSM will do every thing you described very well. The only issue with WSMs is short magazines and you have that covered with a Tikka.

Kind of what I'm thinking I may even ship to Kampfeld and throw a brake on it for 250$ see if a shooter if it is greatnif it rebarrel. My son shoots 3" 2 in a light 20 gauge pump and has no problem shooting a 6.5 saum and my 280ai. Both were 7 lb find Burnham 2 hole brakes

Yes sir I was going to brake them anyway so ifnworke greatnif not only out 250$ and maybe might be able to use later

I love my tikka t3 270 wsm it shoots amazing with 140 accubonds. And have killed elk deer and black bears no problem non went more then 10yards.. I would even try the 117 hammers pushing them around 3400-3550fps.

270 WSM is fine if you handload. I don't like it for hunting as it's std loads are like 3200+FPS which blows up bullets like SST, etc. It also holds 2 less rounds.

270 Win is a better choice.

With a magnum bolt face, 7mm Rem Mag, 6.5 Rem Mag would be good rounds. Neither is mild!

I just purchased a 6.5prc and love it so far. My buddy has a 270wsm and he likes his but wishes bullet availability was better. If it were me id get the 6.5prc but that is only cause im a suck for new calibers AND Hornady does a good job marketing which makes me have faith that factory rifles and ammo will hopefully become more common in the future and stay.

I would check and see if it's a shooter before the brake . May save ya 250 $$ . But I'm pretty partial to the 270 wsm . If I can keep my sons from taking it from me .

I love me some HHs shoot theb143s in my 280ai to 3180 been lethal on antelope 250-400 and a mule deer at 80 I'm def gonna try the Wsm I do handload and have never shot a tikka that wasn't sun moa
