If you want something trendy and rifle cool a 6.5 PRC will work great in that long action. I love mine. It's built on a Medium Defiance Deviant Ultralight and a 26 in 1:8 Proof Sendero Carbon barrel. The medium action gives me plenty of room to load those long 6.5 bullets out of the powder column as your long action would. You just need to throat it right. The advantage of this cartridge is lots of bullets to choose from, low recoil, and killer accuracy even from factory stuff. With factory loads I'm getting .5-.6 MOA. With my best hand loads I'm in the .3-.4 MOA range and everything I've tried has been easily sub-MOA and most 1/2 MOA.
I enjoyed my 257wby, with appropriate twist and 128hammer hunters and the 131 ace bullet would make it a lot of fun

This is my experience. I shot and loaded for 3 different STWs for a number of years back when we had to make cases from 300 WB cases by fire-forming. Trying to find a load was a chore because the rifles were very finicky. Bow, once a recipe was found they shot great but required a very specific combo of powder bullet, bullet seating, and neck tension. Then not paying attention to these troubles I switch to a 300 RUM which was again very finicky. Learning about these issues over the years with my own experieces and speaking with others about their experiences with big long over-bore mags and tiring of burning lots of ammo to find a load that would suit for long range Coues deer hunting I switched to the short mag line. Way way less finicky and easy to load for and plenty of power to get the job done.
Sure there are a lot variables but every person I have run into with a 300 RUM or 300 Norma including several gunsmiths have all reported the same thing. It's a trend. And like I said it doesn't mean you won't quickly find a load to suite but I'd put money on someone finding a load quicker for a 300 WSM verses a 300 Norma with rifles of similar quality.
Oh I'm sure they have some very accurate loads and have developed some great starting points to get great accuracy out of new rifles they build. My 7 STW was a 1/4 minute rifle but I spent a lot of time getting there and for the average reloader or worse non-reloader that path can be painful.
