Hornady 220 ELD-X

Going to be working up a load in the next couple weeks, using R-P brass, 215M Primers, Retumbo. Really hope to find a half moa load in the 3-3100 fps range. shooting a savage 110 with a 24" barrel. might not see the 3100fps.

What is your gun chambered in ? 300 ultra ? If so why would you do a 24" barrel. You lose a lot of Horse power by cutting of those 2"

Personally, I'd opt for a mono metal bullet such as the 180gr Vortex load from Barnes. Even at closer ranges, the bullet should hold together pretty well and I'm not sure I'd say the same for the ELD-X even at 220gr. The bullets designs are pretty much at opposite ends of the spectrum. The other bullet I'd look at would be the 210gr Accubond.

Sometimes we just like to hunt with a rifle we like, I hunt deer and hogs with a .325WSM and .338RCM myself!
oloutlaw likes this.

Took a bull moose at 560 yards this year with this load. Took other animals at 25 yards with the 178 eld-x in my .308. Nothing but good things to say about the eld-x. Near 1/4 moa in the rum at 200 yards.

it's the same basic data as the 225 hdy hpbt and 230 berger… there's plenty of info for those bullets.
I use 95 rl33 or 102 rl50 in rem brass with a 215 at 3.650" in my 300 rums when I push the 225 Hornady...
