Novice! Asking opinions/help!

Good to see the Weatherby's like hsm I may have to try them in mine. I just gave up after the first 3 rifles I tried them in hated them. Which sucks cause everyone seems happy with them. Lol that's my luck though.

I do plan on stretching out past 500 but atm that's kinda my limit until I get my set up where I can say without a doubt that I have done my part to ethically shoot at distances past 500, my goal will be 1k but will work up to that and I am a coach/teacher so I don't mind lessons lol on the range, just don't want to do it on an animal and take undue risk. O and I will be getting reloading equipment, just have to do one thing at a time.

At that range you'll never notice any substantial benefit from shooting Bergers. Save your money and buy a good bonded bullet and use the savings for purchasing reloading equipment.

You'll also find it difficult to seat any VLD far enough out and still fit the rounds in your magazine due to the long throat and gentle slope of WBY's engagement into the lands.

VLD's need to be loaded very close to the lands in order to shoot accurately, Non VLD bullets don't.

A good idea but the Hazmat fees are the same on a single round as they are on a case of ammo which would quickly eat up the cost savings.

That's what I was worried about was the Berger and the jump to lands. That's the one thing that's kept me away from Berger is the load development time and the need to find the sweet spot. Maybe that's why I'm in love with hammers. Lol they are super simple to load for. Plus they work great on game.

Actually, vlds can jump like any other bullet, they will have a distance they like better than others. I used 115 vlds in my 257. I literally left he seating adjusted for 115ballistic tips set at saami length and the vlds shot equally as well. I then played around with seating depth and they would tune in and out on the seating depth. The problem with the 300wby is magazine length, you will have very little adjustment if you need to change the amount of jump the bullet likes

I have yet to find any VLD that shoots well with the same jump standard bullets will shoot well with and all of the manufacturers recommend that that they be loaded into or very close to the lands for best performance.

I think you label it, but they don't charge a hazmat fee - this is from the link you sent me:

Will I Pay An Additional Fee For Shipping Cartridges, Small Arms?
When shipping ORM-Ds or Limited Quantities of hazardous materials by UPS Ground within the 48 contiguous states, UPS Ground Intra-Oahu or Intra-Alaska, only the standard shipping charges apply. There are no "accessorial" or additional charges.

You can ship ammo via UPS or FedEx with appropriate ORM-D stickers on the box. No HazMat fee at all. I have done it several times. Learned that the UPS store won't ship it due to their rules, and the UPS hub is too far from my house. So I opened up a FedEx account. Now I package it up, print out the label, and put it on my porch for the FedEx driver to pick up. Works great!

How does that change what I said? It's still considered Hazmat which is why it requires the ORM-D stickers.

The price we are paying for the Hazmat Fees pays is just for the cost of the added paperwork and effort of the retailers.
