My 338 Sherman Shortmag

I do agree that primer selection is always something to consider. In this case, however, in the absence of pressure signs and with as good of results yielded I'm inclined to continue with the 215s. I'm so tickled about the performance. Feels like I hit the lottery :)

Wow great results doc, really shows that I need to source some better brass. Very glad to have another 338SS to do the initial testing and it is proving to be what was expected, or even better.

Nice! That will turn it in to a pussycat

It sure did! The 4 port lil beast by MBM sure did tame down the already managable recoil. Got out today to touch a few off after receiving my replacement magnetospeed. Still with the 250 Berger and RL 17 to verify my max with this RP brass.

61.5 gr - 2822 - extractor mark
62.0 - 2832 - getting stiff bolt lift
62.5 - 2844 - more pronounced mark and lift
63.0 - 2859 - heavy bolt lift

Extremely happy with the results but definitely not the brass. I won't go past 61 gr with RL 17, but will be trying superformance powder next.

The SS have tracked very well as caliber size increased equal weight bullets have gained significant vel even at a reduction in barrel length. While that is almost always the case it seems even more so with this case. Before these results I would have bet high 2700s best case for a 250 338 and not a long one like the hybrid instead it seems well over a hundred fps faster. These are not light bullet so those increases are much larger in ratio.

There is a lightly used winchester 70 S/A 300WSM around $500 that I think has my name on it for one of these beefier bore SS rounds. With its generous 3.1 max COAl and able to max at 5 rds holding 4 under the bolt in the hinged mag box which is generous for these fat cases. tune the trigger rebarrel and bed gin a good handling stock.

I was able to sneak out today and play with a few pieces of ADG brass. I shot increasing loads of W760 starting where I left off last time. Shot 62gr to a max of 67gr Behind a 215 primer and launching a Berger 250gr OTM. I was able to achieve a max velocity of 2900+ and incidentally drilled 'em in the same hole. Bolt was sticky at this max load. Primers were not flattened and web measured 0.553". I'm definitely impressed with ADG brass and look forward to getting my order.:)
***As Rich has mentioned in his posts, I also would underscore that everyone loading for their weapon is responsible for their own safety. The information I post is for my weapon. I do, however, hope it is helpful to others who are developing a recipe that may work in their weapon.

To my friend Aaron...that's a real nice rig you put together!....I'm hoping you can figure out how to get your hands on some ADG brass. You will NOT regret it!
