7 mm SHERMAN SHORTMAG vs 7 SAUM

As soon as I get my 7ss chambered I'll do some additional load development. I enjoy the process of load dev and have a lot of components to burn.

Plan is to document 20-30 different bullet powder combos. Essentially creating a load manual for the 7mm SS.

Below are the components on hand.
Bullets: 139 SST, 154 SST, 168 VLDH, 180 VLDH, 195 EOL.
Powders: H4350, IMR 4451, Reloder 17, Hybrid 100v, N550, Reloder 19, N160, H4831sc, Superformance, Norma MRP, N560, 4000-MR, H1000.

If you have other combos to suggest I'll try to gather the components while my barrel is being chambered. Based on previous users experience I'll pick up some Reloder 26. I've seen it in local shops.

That will be great! RL26 will likely be top dog, no one has done much testing, to my knowledge, with the lighter bullets....rich

+1 on the hammer hunters. If you have the twist it is a great looking bullet that you should be able to push to 3100fps with ease in the 7ss. I shot 2 out of a 280 7tw and the crono said 2965 with no pressure. This was not an AI round 3 and 4 and they touched at 100yds. 27" rl 26 215 in win brass. I don't remember how much powder but it was full

This looks like a real ELK SLAYER of a caliber! I had a 6.5 Gap 4S (SAUM) built and love it but would feel a little more comfortable hitting bulls with a heavier bullet. My question to Elkaholic or Bigngreen is how does this round cycle with the 40 degree shoulder from a hunting rifle with a hinged floor plate? The 6.5 Gap 4S had a few bugs to work out there. How about the 7SS??

With the right tuning on the feed, they work fine. Like any similar case, they aren't as forgiving as my SST with the 30 degree shoulder. The best options are dbm's like alpha, accurate, etc.

But if you already have SAUM brass you could just make your own SS brass correct ? Just need dies and a reamer.
Derek, thinking on this more, I don't think it's viable to use 6.5 GAP 4S brass and forming it to 7SS due to its lack of neck wall thickness. I would check with Rich but it's not adding up in my head

All I read was that he was shooting a 7 saum and probably had a steady supply of brass for it. I assumed just plain Jane Norma/Rem brass for his 7 saum. We all know what happens when we ASSUME so I'll leave it up to those 2 if its a viable option. I was just trying to be helpful and offer something.
