Custom Actions

I currently have 3 custom actions. 2 deviants and 1 surgeon. One of the deviants is of the early ones made and it is very tight, doesn't run the best in dusty/dirty conditions. Not ideal for a hunting rifle. The second is the light weight hunter model in 6.5 saum and has much better clearance, runs great in all conditions. The surgeon is on my match rifle and has the most clearance and I've yet to get it to bind. All shoot close to 1/4". I have an ARC nucleus on order for a varmint build that I think will be an awesome action as well. I think you'll be happy with whichever you choose. I would avoid coating the defiance actions due to the clearance issues, stick with an ion bond or melonite.

I don't have vast experience with the different actions but have had very good success with the Surgeon(591) which likely gets the heaviest usage, and exposure to dust/dirt encountered in a full day of PRS competition. I have had no issue getting accuracy in the 1's and 2's, mated with a Krieger barrel. it's very smooth, and reliability has been excellent. I'm curious, and would like to put out a question. Most custom action reviews, reference the attributes of strength, precision machining, extraction/ejection, cool factor, etc.etc.......and, IMO, most of the custom actions seem do a good job in these departments. The lockwork/firing pin mechanism is rarely spoken about in reviews and assessments. Similar to choice in triggers, my primary focus on a given action, (custom or factory) is the firing mechanism. Of the actions I have owned or tried, my Surgeon is one of the best I've used in this department. Its fast lock time, and imperceptible movement/shock of the firing mechanism is seamless, having a very positive effect on accuracy. Any thoughts on this aspect?
