I know this is not long range, but I am looking for a scope for my 45/70
The rifle will be used for moose and white tail.
Max range will probably be 300 yards.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

I put a Redfield 2-7x32 on my Marlin. That set up really surprised me with its accuracy .387 3 shot group at 100yds. We found 2 of the bullets pounded together in the dirt behind the target. My thoughts on the scope were 2 is nice and low in the brush and 7 is plenty as far as I plan to shoot it.

The Leupold 2-7x33 is about perfect on my 450 bushmaster. Nice FOV on 2 power and 7 is all the power I need for 250-300 yards. Hog hunting at night is about the only thing that would require a bigger objective. Then a 3-9x50 might be better.

Might sound odd recommending a different scope company, but being we don't have an option in this realm right now, I use a 1-6 VX6 on both my CZ550 in 416 and my 1895M in 450 Marlin. That scope really lets me use the full effective range of the 416 and the 450. I also have a 2.5-8 VX3 on a SBL that I very much enjoy as well.

Trijicon Accupoint 1-6x24 Absolutely amazing glass and rock solid construction with all the features you could want in a very short, short, mid range scope.

I bought one for my .375Ruger Guide Gun and have been blown away, so much in fact that I bought two more, one for each of my 5.56 AR's that get heavily used and abused for hogs and predators.

They are not at all cheap retailing for around 1,100-1,200.00 but worth every penny.

I have the German number 4(I think 4) which is absolutely excellent for my purposes.

The combination of daylight and tritium illumination also has proven to be pretty well invaluable.

One will definitely be going on my Marlin SBL 45/70 guide gun as well sooner rather than later once I get done with a few other projects. CR

If it were mine I would pick from these 3:
Weaver V-3
Leupold VX-2 1-4
Leupold VX-3 1.5-5

Leupold VX 3 in 1.5x5 suggest Warne bases and Warne QR rings so you can use your iron sights and return to zero.

Suggest Williams Fiber Fire Sight front sight.

I have a Nikon carbine 3x on my Henry 45colt very small 8" length. But I havent shot it out to 300yds.
