My boy wins his first LR shooting match!!!

Congrats!!! I also have a 10 year old boy that loves to shoot. It is so fun watching your children enjoy and be successful in shooting. Once again congrats to your son.

Congrats to both of yall.
What suppressor did you go with and why? I'm looking to put one on my 7mag.

Shawn, It was great having you and your son out there, you both are a class act, and I really enjoyed BSing with you both. It was really cool to watch you shoot that vintage rig and watching you and your son clean house on the course. hope you can get your dad to come to the shoot in hells canyon, I would LOVE to see him shoot that pistol you were telling me about. Jay

It was a ball shooting the match with all that participated. My main focus was to get my boy in to competitive shooting, shooting the 40x was fun and kind of a "classic" thing to do. Note to all reading take the time to gewt your kids to a match like this it is a great learning experience and bonding time.

Congrats shawn to you and Tyler. I wish I could of made it! ill bet he hand loaded the rounds himself! also, ive been lookung forward to seeing your 40x in action. On the 260, Ive had the pleasure of firing a round through that gun and could not believe how effective that suppressor was both for noise and recoil. just like all of shawns guns, it just takes shooting it once to know you want one!

My son and I competed in the Sportsman's Challenge Small Game ( Sportsman's Challenge - Home ) match on Saturday. The match was alot of fun, there were 2 courses of fire the short range out to about 500 yards and the long range out to around 800. All targets were animal shaped and made from AR steel. The format was very easy going and alot of fun. The time limits were generous and allowed for the coaching of younger /less experienced shooters as their spotter. My son is 10 years old and won the high junior position in the under 18 catagory. I was extremely proud of him (he nearly cleaned the short course in 6 minutes of the 15 allowed). It was a realy great opportunity for the new long range shooter to get some field practice and learn some things form more experienced shooters. If you get a chance check out one of the matches in the future.

Oh, by the way he shot his Rem 700 with a Hart barreled 260 Rem and suppressor, topped with a 3.5-15 NXS. Thanks to all who cheered him on and went out of their way to make him feel like on of the "big" guys.
Shawn congrats to both of you. Stories like this make me wish even more that I'd had kids of my own.

Wildrose,
You could always get a little protege from a friend or if you know any youngsters around your area that could use some guidence or mentoring. Then you could still pass on and teach the shooting skills that you have aquired over the years, trust me they will appreciate it. That is kind of how I got involved in the outdoors and now I love to do anything outdoor related shoot, hunt, fish, hike, camp, whatever there is. I don't have kids of my own either, but at this last shoot I got to enjoy seeing a few kids really have a good time shooting with their dad or grandfather or even mom and see how they reacted to competing.
