Buying a Gunwerks LR-1000 a good choice?

Guys. I operate on a budget too! We will true and rebarrel a Rem 700 for $700. Other services are priced ala carte as well. If you want to DIY, we are glad to help.

If you want mid price point, we usually have rifles ready to ship in the LR-Hunter model with custom actions and Vortex HS LR scopes.

As usual, when you try to get the last bit of performance from a product, the cost increases accordingly. If a customer is interested in the best we have to offer, an LR-1000 with the G7 by Nightforce is my pick.

Curious as to why you picked the Vortex HS LR scope for your mid price rifles? Have you tested these optics?

Sent you PM on the subject.

$7000 seems like a lot until you start really putting it together.

If resale is important, you should steer clear of anything but a Sako TRG. I'd go $3200 for a 300 Winchester Sako TRG and $2800 for a Schmidt Bender. Spend $1000 on ammo, a shooting class, or learning how to hand load.

The problem with custom rifles is that they are built to one person's perspective. As you claim to be new to this concept, maybe a Remington M700 Sendaro or Police rifle, at $1000, and if it doesn't shoot another $1000 worth of barrel and gunsmithing work would be a cheaper alternative.

I know a guy Who bought one of those LR 1200 siries rifles after i bought my Savage 111 Long range hunter he has allways ben about an equal shot as me we took both guns to the range we both shot our own and each others and my $800 savage grouped just as good if not beter than if im corect he paid $7500 or something like that i just dont see why you would want to pay that much for a rifle your prety much just paying for the name just buy a savage 111 long range hunter and you can shoot groups just as good if not beter than any of those gunworks rifles iv seen it with my own two eys and pulled the trigger on both guns.

Sorry, I just can't resist to post the sage advice of a wise old TX commercial real estate guy:

"You don't always get what you pay for
But you never get what you don't pay for"

I'm a competitor of Gunwerks and I can assure you that their $6500 package is one of the best "VALUES" in our sport - that is LONG RANGE HUNTING - as the website so clearly indicates.

Best Regards to all
Dale

I'm very amazed that someone who doesn't have the TIME or interest to research and set up their own gun, sight it in, etc...etc....etc....is even into hunting and the shooting sports in general. I'm guessing it's just to have a trophy on the wall and bragging rights. This sport has become way over commercialized gun)

I have shot the majority of the 100+ big game animals I have harvested at under 100 yards. I have not ben involved in load data or custom gun building. But I am a hunter. I ordered a rifle from gunwerks because I want to get into long range shooting. I have a gun range on my back deck. I will shoot this rifle a lot and then hunt with it a lot. And yes I have more $ than time. Am I less of a hunter because I didn't build my gun?

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't matter one way or another what I think to you. I'm also sure the statement I made was true then and still is. From watching LRP episodes on tv the gun seems to be worth every penny. I probably would buy one too if I had the money. I would do my research and choose the parts I wanted though, but I don't think people with more money than time should be buying one, with no knowledge of firearms and assume their long range hunters. You need to be proficient with your rifle at long ranges. We have plenty of animals wounded every year because people just want to pull the trigger on an animal that they have no business doing. We all have our own opinions and the right to express them, and that is why we post. If you feel personally offended by mine, let me know. :D Thanks.

You can get from point A to B in a datsun or a Mercedes too.

Could I have the choice to sell the Datsun and buy an old Chevy pickup? It will serve me fine to get around and I need it to haul the meat home to the freezer that I took with a rifle I had assembled here in MT.

Jeff :)

It is overpriced, but it is that way because people are paying for a turnkey, everything taken care of everything package.

I would never buy that rifle for that much, BUT their G7 scope is the real deal. They are actually NF NXS scopes, not 'scopes assembled in the same factory' or whatever BS Huskemaw is being sold as by BOTW. I will be purchasing one soon for the Yogi I am building. I also like GBP's scopes, buying another one of those for the 280AI. I love being able to just have to know the wind and range, dial, holdover and pull the trigger.

I am sure that isn't great in the mind of the purest that will not pay the extra for the drop turret and just paste the chart on the side of their stock, but that's fine. Too each their own.

You don't have time to do the leg work setting up your rig, go the Gunwerks, or GBP, hell even BOTW if you want. Just please, please, please, do some practicing on paper before you shoot at an animal past 600 yards. Please.

Nope. I just like the load development and data collection. I make time for that. But I take shortcuts too. I do the BDC turret deal instead of data tables, much less ranging and doping the mils out in my head like my snipers did in the service. I just am not that good. :D

Next gun though, you may want to have built by a gunsmith piece by piece, with better components and you will see that it will probably come out a bit cheaper, and a tighter shooter. I know, that takes time, and research, but it is food for thought. Your time is probably worth more than mine. ;)

You have a helluva a rifle, have fun with it! Wish I had the shooting range out my back porch!
