This is my first post but I've been around the site for a while. Wife says she (or the kids) will not eat anymore game meat shot with a lead bullet. I'm currently shooting a 270 wsm with a 26" hart and 150 Nosler bt at 3120. This combo crushes Coues out to as far as I can consistently shoot at those little buggers(800 +/-). I would say in our canyon country, 500 yards is a chip shot. What experience do you guys have with Barnes ttsx on lighter game at distance? Only experience I have is watching my buddy shoot a bull at 880 with his 300 rum and a 168 ttsx. The bull went about 10 yards. Maybe a new rifle (264 wm) with a lighter bullet? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Suggestion #1) Use those New Ballistic tip bullets, the kind that are plastic on the tip and copper all over. (I assume your wife doesn't hunt with you).
Suggestion #2) Those Coues Deer are pretty small, I'm sure you can eat them all your self.

Some rifles shoot the Barnes quite well, but the BC's are down in comparison to the Sierra and Berger offerings. Cutting Edge makes monolithic copper bullets that carry much higher BC's, but the bullet is a little more costly to shoot. I cannot speak on their accuracy as I am waiting to get my 300 WSM back from the smith before I can test them.

I tested high for lead and mercury in my system.
So, for idiot me and my idiotic family, no more shooting game with lead for us, nor vaccinations with thermerisol. All mercury teeth fillings have been removed too.
I guess it all depends on one's priorities. The original poster's wife seems spot on to me. Regardless, insulting someone's wife due to a difference of opinion of a bullet composition is uncalled for among gentlemen.

I agree with the idea that it's ridiculous to call someone's wife an idiot unless you are standing toe to toe with him and are ready to spit teeth.
I have no idea as to how much lead one would receive by eating an animal shot with lead core bullets.
I know that if the consequences were too severe I would have been dead from lead poisoning a long time ago.

+1, I have to agree here.
To the OP, lucky for you, there are many more offering in monolithic bullets than back when Barnes started. I would look into the Hornady GMX, and Nosler E-Tip. These are turning out to be great bullets. If you want some bullets with good BC, but stay with mono metal bullets, then GS Custom bullets and Cutting Edge bullets would be a good answer. Both are a littler more expensive than the Hornady, Nosler and Barnes, but offer some great quality. I know they both get good reviews here on this sight. Cutting Edge bullets are only about 20miles from where I live. My cousin has bought some and they are nice bullets. Well thought out and well designed.

why is everyone steering away from Barnes? the ttsx is an awesome hunting bullet.
They now have the LRX which is the same bullet with a higher BC. so get the LRX (long range hunting bullet) if you want to go long range with the Barnes, but the Hornady gmx and the nosler etip are very good as well. Id go with the LRX from Barnes for sure

ive used the 210, 225 and 250 barnes tsx and ttsx with EXTREMLY good results. very accurate and I have never had any fragmentation whatsoever. the only way I can get them to shear of those petals is to shoot them into mild steel, and then they just weld there pedals to the steel and keep truckin. I really like barnes performance wise, price wise... not so much. They also have pretty low B.C's in comparison to alot of good bullets(like its been said before). liltank has recommended some extremly good choices as well.

Thanks for the replies. My wife is by no means an idiot. Getting a divorce would be the easy way out! I'll look into the lrx and a few of the others. I've always heard good things about the Barnes ttsx. I suppose I'll get some first hand experience.
