Bedding a Savage

Hello all;

I would like to get a consensus of how everyone beds there Savages. (Full contact, All but the tang,
Under the bedding screws only.ETC)

Open to all recommendations.

This rifle is the 1.344 dia. action with the 4 and 1/4 screw spacing. and does not incorporate the barrel nut.

This rifle has to shoot sub 1/4 MOA groups so I have to pull out all the stops.

I bed all of my Savages from the rear action screw to the recoil lug. I float the rear tang, nut, and barrel.

I have done 2 of mine. One i haven't even shot yet or done load work up.

Both have 32"barrels. One is nutless and the other has a nut.

My 260 I did alittle load work up with and best groups i got with it at 200 yards with 123gr Sierras was about 1 3/4". Bedded it, shot a 7 shot group with same load at 180 yards into 1/2" ctc.

In both rifles i bedded entire action tang and all and i bedded close to 2 1/2 in front of the lug.

I did one rifle three different ways and geargrinders way was the most accurate and consistent. Everything was under under MOA but the final one has yielded a very reliable .750 inch group at 200yrds and will do it from first to however many I shoot, the other ways were real sensitive to torque and seems finicky.
I set one up for free floating the tang by taping it up like I do the barrel to get everything in the spot I wanted and I watched and played with an indicator and found that it did not take hardly any pressure on the action when squeezing it all down and it would spring back, so I went to no spacer of any kind on the tang and use three points on the barrel to get the action where I wanted it and I only squeeze on the barrel and I get very stress free beading on my Savages. I haven't done hundreds yet but for now that what I do, for what it's worth.

That's the way I was thinking about doing it because of all the holes and cuts
in the rear of the receiver.

If it doesent work I will try a full bed next.
