Well today I found out the 7mm-08 with a 24 inch barrel with a speer 145gr btsp bullet and 49gr of imr 4350 and a cci 250 mag primmer.Did in a big whitetail doe 165 pounds dressed it ran 45 yards died throw the shoulder and blow out the heart and lungs.I ranged it with my swaro range finder. But I did find out aways use your range finder if you have it.Cost me a buck of a life time I thought I new the range and shot and missed.I thought it was a little over 500 yards when i shot. It was 425 yards away I later fond out. I learned a big lesson.

thanks for posting that as I only have one rifle a 7mm-08 Tikka T3 lite. As a rookie LRH my goal in developing my LRH skills is to perfect maximum range on this rifle before I move on to another caliber. It's good to know the little 7 can get past 400 yards as so many say is the limit. JBM ballistics puts the 168 gr Berger VLD launched at 2600 fps in 3000 ft altitude all the way to 700 yards still doing the required 1800 fps for expansion and about 1200 lbs energy. I'll be experimenting with the heavier bullets and see what the little 7 can do.

I thought I would be pushing it with a 150 gr bullet so I went with a 145gr bullet I wanted the 3000 fps or close to it.And I zaped another doe today at 504 yards same load.I'm going to keep using this load. One thing I've notice is the gun has to have a dirty barrel to shoot this load well.

I need to try that load assuming the speer can expand at 1800 fps that load gets you 1863 FPS , 1092 lbs energy at *700* yards if launched at 2900 fps 3000 ft altitude. I think I'll try that 145 gr speer I have some RL 17 that may get the fps
---this is interesting G1 BC of .502 with a cross wind of 3 mph you don't get into any meaningful wind drift until 500 yards.

The bullet has expand at 569yards and 504 yards we dropped a deer this evening at only 300 yards. So far I real like the bullet and load so far .I do have the bullet and case lengthen to 2.820 the rifling is at 2.823.My avg speed is 2950-2975fps.One other thing is I'm thinking of putting a 28 inch barrel on this gun a little more speed it has a 24 inch barrel now.

where do you live so you can go out an knock over a deer every night?
Out here in Southern CA you have to hunt really hard for a few weeks just to see a buck

Where at in southern California? I have knocked down some good ones within 3 hours of home in Bakersfield
I am down here in San Diego D16, there are a few big bucks but ya gotta hunt them hard, makes it that much more fun. I hear there are some big bucks in D17 I may put in for that zone next year as it isn't too far.

Michigan lots of antlerless permits and we can kill two bucks per person. There are some countys in michigan you can get 1- 2 antlerless permits a day.But rifle season is from nov-15-30

Look at the Ballistic tips also, I use the 120 at 3158 ft/sec velocity and the 140 at 3020 ft/sec
and at extreme distances they expand well.

The 120 grain Ballistic tip at over 3100 is deadly on deer at 500+yards and in.
