Preferred impact velocity?

Might sound dumb but I have wanted to buy a 375 H&H for a while but can't find a dealer in my area in Florida who is even willing to order one. I quit asking about a year ago...any ideas where I should look? I probably can't swing a custom one right now but it may be possible to do in the future.
There are a bunch on gunbroker. Mine are both Win M70 CRF. One of the last New Haven Stainless Synthetic. I found it as a NOS in a shop in PA but searching on line. The other is one of the few South Carolina made, Stainless Laminated. That one I ordered through a dealer from Winchester and waited a year. Ordered in 2012 and recieved in 2013.

Mine is an SC gun ordered new in 2011, prior to that I had a SAKO, with a 20" Machlicer stock and it was a killer. I sold it and bought the Winchester. It is every bit as nice or better than my pre-64 Model 70. Also, I have worked with CZ in .375 and 416 Rigby, the CZ is a great gun as well. Like the poster here said go to GunBroker, that's where I sold my SAKO, not a typical caliber in FL you would see then in AK, MT, TX and GunBroker.

Good Luck

I've not had a chance to shoot at a deer long enough to even consider velocity/expansion. Most deer taken in FL are on food plots, feeders or in the swamp/WMA areas and you are looking at 100 and htey get scapular/spine shots. Have taken a hog at ~ 330 though with a neck shot with a 308AR that was my longest. Jealous of you guys out west I'd love the hiking and the preparation for challenging shots.

I am curious to hear what everyone's perfect impact velocity is on whitetails.

If you could pick the impact velocity what would it be? Please list specific bullet with weight and caliber (not cartridge).

I don't want this to be about cartridge or distance, as those specifics get threads side tracked.

Think this will be an informative bullet performance topic.

Steve
Perfect impact velocity is the velocity that the bullet is designed to perform with it's optimum design specifications. Seldom does any specified velocity other than this mean anything since velocity changes on a downward curve as it flies through the air. Since there is no way to measure the exact velocity upon impacting the animal this is kind of a moot point. 🤨

It starts on a personal level. Letting go of agendas and avoiding cheap "likes" and "cheers" on posts that clearly don't meet that standard. If I have a personal vendetta against someone or something, it will show no matter how well I think I'm masking it.

Lefty7mmstw, has offered some good advice!

With our government trying to eliminate all of the small independent FFL dealers, it's not nearly as easy as several years ago…..but, you might try and find an FFL dealer near you. There's a chance….though small, that he could find you one!

Good Luck on finding one! One of the best, most useful, all around cartridges out there! The only regret that I have in buying mine….was waiting until I was about 31 years old when I bought mine! memtb

I can't say that I can't blame you!

Lose that "weed burner"…..and that would be one of the most beautiful (and useful) rifles that I've seen!

She's a real beauty…..what does it weigh (scoped, loaded, slung) ready to hunt? memtb

I don't remember weight. I was going to weight it last night, but its in the last row in the safe, had to take too many out to get to it.
I called the gunsmith that made/installed those breaks, and he can make me a thread protector to match. Breaks help if you shooting from a bench.
I saw it on the Winchester Website in 2012? I ordered it when I could and waited for a year. Winchester made a "series" of rifles at a time and waited for the "line" to switch to these ones. The plans was DGR in Africa, then life happened, went plains game instead with 300WBY
QRW rings, to remove scope in heavy brush and use iron sights....for those old enough who remember what iron sights are

When I had my AI built, I thought that I wanted a brake, got a "Slimline". Used it a few times from the bench, and yes it was nice…..then I went out setting-up bear bait sites and shoot it (once) as though I were hunting! Perhaps one of the worst pains I ever experience….I thought that I would be bleeding from the ears!

I made all sorts of excuses for the unbelievable blast, sitting with my back to a steep hillside, ect. So, I tried it again, from a standing position with nothing but short brush/weeds nearby…..I immediately regretted trying it again!

I removed the brake, and haven't seen it in over 23 years! I have no idea where it's at, and won't lose any sleep over it's disappearence! 😉

Yes, it jumps a little when fired from the bench…..but, I'll gladly deal with it! 😉 memtb

I shot it without a break, I shot my buddy's with magnaports and shot both of mine with the break shown. I am used to radial breaks, started out with the BOSS over 25 years ago. I dont have a problem shooting any from 22-250 to 375H&H. Just wear double ear protection
