Henry big boy accuracy

My dad has a 44 mag Henry big boy that I cannot get to shoot well at all, except for one bullet, the Berry's 240 gr flat point. The Berry's bullet can shoot around an inch at 80 yds, but any other bullet I shoot cannot get better than 2.5in at 80. The brass is starline for all of them and I put a factory crimp on all. Anybody else have a bullet that works good for their Henry?

Look at Nosler 240gr SP What kind of crimp are you using standard roll or Lee factory crimp tool? Also what powder? Cheers

I have thought about the nosler 240gr, but I saw some things online saying that they blow up and are too soft, and a rifle will only make that worse. I am using a Lee collet crimp die. W296 powder and federal large pistol mag matches for primers.

Sierra's 210 grain, with 26 gr of 5744 works in 1894 Marlin, 20" barrel. Think ur barrels has same 1 in 38" twist rate, good luck.

It has a 1/38 twist im pretty sure, I tried the Sierra 240 grs and no dice with any combination of loads. Not sure if the 210 would do any better

Yeah, i tried pretty much everything from 23-25gr of w296 with those and this is about the best I got, besides that one up top which was pulled. It's good enough, but I guess I am just spoiled on how good the Berry's shoot because I can't get anything to match them. Target is 80 yds

Thats crazy. Have you tried a slightly oversized hard cast? Maybe the barrel is slightly overbored

No, I have not tried that, if could work, but I have never got into all the gas checking and everything so I would honestly rather go with the Berry's, they will basically do the same thing on game. It's just hard for me to find a load that shoots pretty decent other than the Berry's, because it will do nothing but punch a hole on an animal so it's not optimal.

I've put them through my S&W 29 6" and Winchester mod 94 top eject as well as my 24" Marlin .444 with the exception of the .444 at close range they work great.

You might try slugging your barrel and seeing where its at.

I don't really think that is the problem, because the Berry's are .429 and then shoot the best. The circled group below is the Berry's, they consistently shoot that good or better

I might have to give them a try then, because maybe the softer the bullet is the better they shoot, I've heard that the Berry ones are soft too and they shoot good, I have also looked at the hawk bullets.
