Why hasent anyone made a longer monometal 30 cal bullit. Wouln't that increase the bc. experts please help thinking about making my oun.

They are out there. Barnes, Boretech, Extreme etc, Just issues with they only seem to work in certain barrel specific configurations. Not to mention your run into COAL issues if the gun is a magazine gun.

Instead look at the JLK 210 LB BT with .680 BC just came out.

They've long been on the market, Barnes' TSX are readily available.

I get the impression that qqqq33 knows of the existing ones, but wonders why they dont make a longer one.

qqqq33, the biggest challenge with that is the ones alredy out there are about as long as they can make them without stability issues. I specifically asked both Nosler and Barnes about this and that is the answer I got.

GS advertises a 30 cal 177 gr bullet with a BC of .638, which is quite high. On top of that, their design gets them about 100-200 fps faster than other bullets of the same size. The BC part is questionable though. Still if you can shoot one of those @ 3500-3600 fps out of a 300 RUM with a BC of .6, it will out run anything out there for a long way down range. There is another member on the forum that will be trying them soon, and I hope to give them a go too if the BC is close to advertised.

So far, very little known performance with these particular bullets.

you are right montana. Thanks for the back up. This is the deal, material time and labor are free so I was thinking about just making it my self. I know there mitigating sercumstances behind this but if some one could just point me in the right directionI could take it from there. This will be used in a 300 rum. Just Trying to have fun building a better mouse trap thats all. Sorry about the spelling.

q33,

Can you drill a hole in the tip? If not I think you will have trouble with on game performance. If you are going to copy one, I would try to copy the GS bullet. Go for the drive bands to relieve pressure.

Sounds like a good way to have fun, but like Steve said, you need to make them so they expand.... and.... expand fairly evenly to get desired terminal ballistics. I think GS has done a lot of good design work for monometal bullets, but they have few "hunting" style bullets with acceptable LR BCs. The CEO, Gerard Schultz, has said they will start looking into devolping LR hunting bullets after they have finished developing their SP line (non-expanding solids) Their SPs are high BC bullets.

Trueblue,

It was the GS web site that got me interested in more than reloading and sighting in at 100yrds. There is a ton of info on their site. I lost many hours there.
