Getting ready for another trip at the same area and was looking at Google maps & photos.
B Land M area having some potential for rodents before heat sets in. Photos were taken in July, 2019, temps were about 90 F.
Two lots of ammo. Olde 75 AMax bullets loaded with H414 & H4350. The H414 loads worked just fine at temps about 60 F but at 90, sticky bolt lifts, cratered primers, no more H414. The H4350 loads worked just fine - over 90 % hits on 8 inch steel at 500.
Staball set off with Fed 215's and 75 ELDM's appears to work. AMax replaced with 75 ELDM's. 7.7 twist.
That .22-.250 was one of the first M77 MKII's that had a Mauser type nonrotating extractor but were push feed. Ideal for single shot use as shown in bottom photos. 1 inch tube 6.5-20X40 Leupold & Ruger Rings provide enough elevation for 600 yards plus. Rings were lapped.
The tripod/lead sled combo works better than my Death Grip tripod. Spreading the legs and lowering it to seating height makes it more stable. OK provided no need to pack it in more than 200 yards with stool to sit on.
Latest .22.250 is controlled feed, magazine with 30 mm Burris 5-25X50 scopes to enable hits just below horizon.
