Does anyone hunt with 22-250 anymore?

70g TNT on coyotes work well. You would never catch me shooting a TNT 70g on deer, they are just too explosive and very thin jacket. I would opt for the 70g Nosler ballistic tips with their SOLID BASE, and I wish I had several thousand of the old Nosler 70g and 85g SOlid base lead tip bullets.

An acquaintance here is running a 6 Gibbs with the 70 and 90g Ballistic tips on deer with great success.

I have a couple Savages with a 1-12 twist barrels, one wears a factory barrel and the other has a Shilen. Both rifles shoot Sierra 55gr GameKings very well. Good medicine on coyotes and groundhogs.

Has anyone tried H1000 with 80gr + bullets? In the 22-250ai.
I had a friend run the same thing through quick load for 80gr SMK's out of a 24", 8 twist 22-250. H-1000 at 36.4gr max. would have been 107% case fill and would produce under 40K pressure at about 2760 fps.
I settled on 34.3gr. of CFE 223 running at 3215 fps shooting just under .250" (about the best I can do).
There are a lot of other good choices to choose from like:
Ramshot Big Game
IMR 4895
H 4895
RL 15
H 380
Varget
All of these are all capable of around 3200 fps plus per quickload.

I have a bunch of the cfe 223, I'll give that a shot

Years ago I used to have a Remington 700 chambered in 22-250 that I shot a lot of prairie dogs with. Time went by and the rifle was rechambered in a different caliber and forgotten about. Recently while going through and old ammo box I came across some loaded 22-250 rounds and that got me to thinking about how much I had enjoyed the round. Now I am thinking about getting a barrel chambered in 22-250 or maybe another rifle in that caliber. Time to start saving some coins for another project I guess
what was that old 700 remembered to? Can't think of anything better than 22-250.

Happy memories with a .22-.250.

Getting ready for another trip at the same area and was looking at Google maps & photos.
B Land M area having some potential for rodents before heat sets in. Photos were taken in July, 2019, temps were about 90 F.

Two lots of ammo. Olde 75 AMax bullets loaded with H414 & H4350. The H414 loads worked just fine at temps about 60 F but at 90, sticky bolt lifts, cratered primers, no more H414. The H4350 loads worked just fine - over 90 % hits on 8 inch steel at 500.

Staball set off with Fed 215's and 75 ELDM's appears to work. AMax replaced with 75 ELDM's. 7.7 twist.

That .22-.250 was one of the first M77 MKII's that had a Mauser type nonrotating extractor but were push feed. Ideal for single shot use as shown in bottom photos. 1 inch tube 6.5-20X40 Leupold & Ruger Rings provide enough elevation for 600 yards plus. Rings were lapped.

The tripod/lead sled combo works better than my Death Grip tripod. Spreading the legs and lowering it to seating height makes it more stable. OK provided no need to pack it in more than 200 yards with stool to sit on.

Latest .22.250 is controlled feed, magazine with 30 mm Burris 5-25X50 scopes to enable hits just below horizon.

I have a Ruger M77 Mark II Hawkeye 22-250. It does have the long "mauser style" extractor and I believe it is control round feed? Just wished I had a faster than 14 twist. Too new to rebarrel. Will stick to lighter bullets.

Going back 50 years or so - 50 or 52 grain bullet with H380. Now, I would load a 50 VMax with any number of powders for a 14 twist. Today's H380 appears to be slower than the old H380

The last time I shot my 9 twist .22-.250 it was with the 53 VMax using IMR 8208. good for about 3,700 fps from the 9 twist.

H380 is sort of a classic .22-.250 powder.

The bottom of the bolt face on a controlled feed is open vs. closed on a push feed.

Thanks. It is Control Round Feed. I beleive they have been since 1991, when they were redesigned

If you are going to rechamber a 22-250. I would look at 22-250AI chamber.
