What is causing this dent below the shoulder on my Ackley Improved cases?

clean the die really good , size another but only lube the side of body at and below your dent , dont put any lube on the shoulder or neck of the brass at all

many think that the feel of sizing , is from the neck and shoulder being moved , but 90% of the hard size feeling is from the body coming back in , the brass being larger than the die mouth opening creates a very tight seal , leave the neck dry so the trapped air can escape over the top

Thank you to all who have chimed in so far. I'm at the range now shooting so I'll have some brass to experiment with tonight. I'll let everyone know what I figure out.

Wondering if annealing the brass would help. .
Not an easy fix, if your not already set up for it. But if it would solve the problem......and you knew somebody that could do it for you. I don't know.... just throwing it out there.
I have tried alot of different lubes and also use one shot....seems to work the best for me.

I am not setup for it but I want to get to that point. Maybe this should be a different thread but what would you guys buy if you were getting started into annealing?

Unless you are experienced soldering and brazing with a torch I would recommend a machine vs the drill and socket torch method, too many variables and you need a good chrono(LR or MS) to see if you are doing more good than bad on your ES. If you want to send them to me I will AMP anneal them.

Buy once cry once. AMP!
BUT it is very expensive for just reloading a small amount for Hunting.
You are killing me!! Lol. I am not one to go cheap on stuff if I know it's worth it. I've been looking at the Amp and am really close to getting myself a Christmas present. Do you have any recommendations for the "best" place to purchase one?

We got our's directly from Alex Findlay - President of AMP. He also gave a Military & LE Discount.

Dang, didn't realize they were that expensive but I know they are the best from reading and research. Is there another option for a "beginner" or just bite the bullet and be done with it?

Reloading is expensive. Shooting is expensive. Hunting is expensive.
If you are just hunting and shooting a few boxes a year, just stick with factory ammo.
I can see that you are already starting to do your own reloading. Now you are going to go into the Rabit Hole. If you are serious and want to continue to hand load buy the best you can first. It is going to cost you a fortune. I have been reloading for over 50 years and went through several stages. Now have just about the best of the best.
I suggest that unless you are into competition (even with yourself) you can get very good used equipment as you go and upgrade.
If just hunting you don't need to spend thousands of dollars just to shoot a few hundred rounds a year.
If you need some cases annealed there are members on here that can help you out.
You can PM me if you want to talk about reloading.
Thanks
Len & Jill
