Quick question, root cause of 2 + 1 groups?

Whoa.
I missed that clean cold bore shot.
After fouling shots…will it shoot the same 3 shot group with cold bore?

Ok...was misunderstanding at first.
I just re-read your post #14 saying after you fire a couple fouling rounds the clean cold bore wild shot goes away...right?
Then the 3 round clover group?
Sounds good to me...
I might be missing something but I always shoot a couple of foulers before taking my rifle out to hunt or for score at the range.

This is something I see mentioned or questioned often, I just happened to have an example.

Buddy and I have hashed this subject for years. A hunting rig I want to know where #1 and #2 are, anything after that you, the rifle/cartridge or both have exceeded abilities.

I have done 5 shot groups in a range session, pretty much an all day project. I want everything ambient.
John Barsness approached this subject some years back. Same target same load same rifle. First shot cold bore, one and done every range trip. Do that about a dozen times and see how it groups. If one wanted the second shot I would use two different targets.

Folks get hung up on shooting BR groups out of a hunting rig. I get it as we all strive for "itty bitty" groups, nothing wrong with that. But in the field we don't have the rock solid bench and squeeze bags and the advantage of slowed heart and breathing rates.

I have a rifle that consistently does this, regardless of who's shooting it.

I get 2 essentially in the same hole then one right on the edge.

280 Ackley Sammi 26" proof barrel, this was with the EC Tuner brake, but it will do it with a standard brake or thread protector.

I think that's a really great shooting rifle.
