I see a short, light 30 caliber short mag in my future. What is the best option for brass availability, performance does, etc…?

I want this on a short action and would like to push 178-208 grain bullets over 3000fps.

Is that even doable and which would get me there the easiest without beating up brass and the rifle?

Quality brass is high on the list of importance. This will be a low volume shooter I'd it matters.

Looking for recommendations on the most well rounded package taking all of the above into consideration.

300 SAUM

We should receive a bunch later in the year, but we all know how that goes!

That changes things, but "I" would go with LA instead IIWY unless the PE SA can provide you COAL in the 3-inch plus range, but that's just me. Cheers!
Playing around in Quickdesign, on a 300 SAUM with a 178 ELDM I can seat it at 2.930 and have the bearing surface above the neck/shoulder junction which would easily work in a SA.

Hornady 10th edition manual is showing 2900 FPS out of 24" with 2.755" already for the 178 ELD-M. With the right powder, 3000 FPS is attainable, esp. with a 26" plus barrel. The .300 WSM might still be worth exploring, though.

I went with the 300WSM on an XM action 20" barrel because of ADG brass availability. Quickload has a 205 Berger at about 2700 w/ RL26. Gun is still being built. The Shermans have brass availability as well. Most of my decision was based on component access. But I'm like you. I just HAD to have a short barrel 30 cal.
