Interlock vs SST

I cant tell you how many elk and mule deer I have killed with the Hornady 139 grain interbond, the predecessor to the interlock out of my 7 mag. I use interlocks in my wifes 6mm and they shoot great and kill deer flat dead, no issues. I ahve not shot any of the SST's so I cannot give you any real world experience with those.
I used to shoot 7mm and 30 cal. Interbonds quite a bit. Good bullets. I thought the Interlocks were around before them ? I also thought Nosler came out with their Accubond after Hornaday's Interbond ? Could be wrong..Getting old...
I switched to Accubonds back then because the shot better.

I shot a Muley buck in Utah many moons ago with a 150 grain SST out of a 300 Rim. MV chrono'ed at 3630 fps. Buck was around 100 yds. I hit shoulder. It looked like a granade went off in him. Not much left of shoulder. After that I shot 180 bullets...
I always avoid the shoulder. I shoot for just behind the shoulder. Muley's, Whitetails and speed goats usually drop on the spot or run less than 40 yards.

I'm getting old too, you are right the interlocks came out years before the interbonds. I have 7 different 308 that shoot the 165 interbonds .6 or better with the same load of H 4895. Tried the Accubonds, they shoot good with different charges, and they are also a good bullet. Keep shooting, I have a uncle that is 92, he killed a 8 point last year and a 11 point two years ago.

Good for your uncle ! I'll be 65 next month. I feel old though.
4 years football. 15 years motocross and every other **** thing. Pay the price later. I have to get my knee worked on after July 1st. 2nd time left. 1 time right. Maybe someday shoulder. Been waiting on Medicare .. 🙄 Got supplimental so it should cost me anything. Hopefully.

IMO I'd say buy what shoots better in your rifle. That being said it there is no noticable difference I'd go with the good old Interlocks. There have been a lot of deer shot with the interlock in many different calibers. They are a great bullet for deer. I honestly believe they are all you need. You don't need a premium bullet for any deer unless you're shooting at extended ranges where a high BC increases your odds of recovery.
I could never get SSTs to shoot out of my 7-08s. Funny thing is tho my Browning likes the 139 gr Interlocks but my grandson's Savage prefers the 154s.

I was saying the old SST was lead tipped . So they have a BTSP Interlock now ? That'd be a great bullet.

Yes, for over 10 years at least, because the ones I still have are 10yrs old. I have both versions.

I still have some from when they called them "Spire Points". They changed the name to interlocks a long time ago. They shoot great in my .270. Same recipe for over 35 years. Hope they never stop making them.

Well the nice thing is I have 3 unopened boxes of 150 Nosler Partitions an unopened box of 139 Interlocks and 3 partial boxes of Sierras of various weights so I think I will use the SST`s on coyotes and give my 220 Swift a break
