Having hell with my new 300win

I had a Howa exactly like that. Shot all types of bullets, factory and hand loads. I sent it to their smith in Nevada and he said the only that shot well was 150gr at 1.5 moa. They eventually replaced the rifle. He did offer to tension the barrel with shims. He said sometimes barrels shoot better that way.

I went crazy and $broke$ chasing two rem 700s accuracy - sold both - and will never by another Remington
I've never built a gun using rem actions or clones (that would be my choice over rem factory)! I'm super happy I went with savage110!

I wonder how un-square the bolt face might be? I'm not saying a "trued action", just a not enough squared action?

I have always set my action screws at 45 lbs in all my rifles, front and back. All my centerfires will shoot .5 @ 100 or better. Does it really make a difference, or does that pertain to rifles with uneven action/bottom metal pressure? I never experimented with action screw torque. Honest question.
Just checking 45 lbs or 45 inch lbs? I don't think action screws could take 45 lbs 302 rod bolts are only 25 lbs.

There are people out there that will jump all over me on what I'm about to state in my next sentence. I've purchased a 110 ba/le 26" 300wm and have never cleaned the barrel in the last 100 rounds. With the purchase of HSM 210 berger vld-h ammo this gun shoots crazy accurate out of the box when I can keep the scope from moving. These are my test rounds in any and every 300wm I own (so far 3).

I experienced the same
I built a 300WM with the intention of shooting 190gr ABLR's.
It wouldn't shoot them. I also couldn't get acceptable accuracy from 200 or 212gr ELD-X's. I tried a few other bullets and some factory ammo. Nothing shot under 1.5 moa
It was suggested I try the 215's and the rest was history. Average group size is .449"
Wlfdg it is amazing the years of learning from the great folks on this site what a rookie like me can glean! The first lesson for me was how picky a barrel could be on what it liked! I also tried the eldx 212, that was a disappointment HA. But I'll be experimenting again since I'm running low on 215's, going to give the Berger 208 a try. If you have any experience with them I'd liked to hear about it.

Does it have the factory plastic stock?
THIS ^^^ could be, the "culprit" as,..
Son and I, BOTH, had to, Glass Bed, the Action, Recoil Lug and our BARREL Channel's ( Free Floated, Bbl's ) of our Tupperware, PLASTIC Stocked, Rem 700's in, 7 MM Mag and .300 WSM to get, the Rifles to,.. "shoot" !
The Forend's would "touch" Barrels under, Pre-loading "Stress" of, the Bi-Pod in Prone position and sometimes on, the Caldwell Rest.
They ARE,. Flimsy, stocks,.. NOT like, the Tikka Stocks that, ARE,.. "Hard" / stiff !
FILLING up, the weak, Barrel "channel" / Forend Area with, Glass Bedding compound, will "stiffen up" & CURE, the Tupperware,.. forend, Problem !
You Problem, most likely,.. ISN'T, the Ammo

I've tried 165nbt, 168ablr, 180sgk, 180fed fusion, 155 (I think they are nos match they shot best). Have tried doing 3 shot ladder/ group test with 7828, 4831, 4451, re26.
I just floated the stock and changed out the new Burris veracity to make sure it's not the scope.
Everything is tourqed to spec.

anyone have recommendations for bullet to try. I'm going to run hammer bullets but want to try to get it to group before I start sending 1.25 pills down the pipe. Best group is 155 like 1.5moa. the rest is 2.5-3moa
If someone else hasn't already covered it, you might check to see how true the bolt face is. Look for ware marks on the bolt lugs. Also take a good look at the barrel crowning. I had a new Bagara that was sent back to the factory for those two reasons. They also lapped the barrel while it was there. It went from 2.5" at 100 yds to .66. Still a bit too much for me, so I will fine tune my loads.

Mine is most accurate with 208 gr ELDM 77 - 77.7 gr of H1000. Literally a 3/8" gun at a 200 yards.

Good luck finding it's nitch

Did you load the rifle bullets yourself?
