Ok I'm fairly inexperienced with different bullets. Over the years I didn't really shoot targets much. Only to sight my rifle in for deer season. So I shot factory winchester power points and rarely shot over 100 yards. We just didn't have the money to set and shoot.
Anyway things change and recently I have got into the long range shooting and reloading my own bullets. There is sooooooooo much out there. Not that you can find anything anymore. But I put a post up about questionable hunting bullet, and got some folks that sounds like they hunt with MATCH bullets. I was told Match bullets were for the range. But now hearing guys are hunting with them. You guys got any opinions on this?

In my limited experience match bullets can be extremely emphatic killers, especially the polymer tipped ones that are, imo, more assured to come apart violently while otm types can fail to expand/fragment at lower velocity in comparison. Hornady eld m and Sierra tmk come to mind. Don't shoulder shoot a moose with them at 20 yards…but double lunging a little deer at long range with an overly tough mono or bonded bullet that's not moving fast anymore can be cruelly slow.

The only rifle bull I've ever lost was with an accubond at long range.
Eldm, Eldx, and Bergers is where it's at.
More so berger targets if you're wanting to take shoulder shots

Let me get there as fast as I can. Anyway every bullet thread ends with hudreds of this posts. HAMMERS ARE THE BEST BULLETS IN THE UNIVERSE.

So I dont have the experience some do in this thread. But have seen lots of animals shot with match bullets, it's what my dad has reloaded for hunting all his life and he was a guide for years. Since reading the threads here I have an idea why it works for some folks and not others. Speed, shot placement and bullet selection. I probably wouldn't run a light match grade bullet at a high speed at close range and shoot something in the shoulder, otherwise it might explode before proper penetration. For example a eldm bullet at 50yds out of a 280ai is going to react differently than one out of a 28 nosler due to the speed. My recommendation is know your guns velocities then look at a bullets construction for how it will perform under those velocities in the manner and range you want it to. Without answering those questions all the answers you get will be for someone else's situation.
