I'm highly considering building a 22CM to run the 53gr VMAX.. Need help on expectations running this round.

Before everyone chimes in saying run the 75s-90s in it, I already have efficient longer range guns. I want this to be a laser beam/lightning bolt. Flat shooting as can be out to 300ish... I've settled on the 53s at full steam.

what are you pushing these to with what length of barrel? (And what powders)

My first 22-250 ai was a 24" 1:14, 53gr sierras at 3950 fps with varget. The cm case may get you another 50-75 fps. Might also try a faster powder

RL15 gets my 22-250AI with a 30" barrel up around 4100 with 53 grain VMAX bullets. It's an 8 twist barrel and shoots those 53s in very tiny holes. I've had it out to 500 yards with the 53s at my range and it's still a .75 rifle at 500. Typically this rifle shoots 75-80s. I'd recommend a bit slower twist for best accuracy. 12 twist is ideal IMO.

Was asking about 53s not the heavies. Thanks for the info though!

Perfect! This is the type of info I was looking for.

you think if I went with a 8.5 or a 9, I could get the best of both worlds? Seems like your 8 is working for you.. even though your bullet is spinning SUPER fast (369000 RPM)

That's a good question. If you didn't want to go bigger than say a 70 grain low drag bullet or even the 69smk, the 9 would be great. Here's the thing tho. The 53 VMAX has about the same BC as the 69smk. You'd need to get into the 70-75 low drags to get better numbers. You'd need an 8 twist for that.

I have a 22CM in a 14 twist. Shoot 55gr BTs at 4100 with Varget. No pressure signs
That's what I like to hear. I have guns that push ~0.7BC bullets in the ~2,800 range which are awesome downrange, but I want to see 4,000+ on the chronograph with the 50-55gr weight bullets. Give it a 200yd zero and practically cheating out to 300yd per ballistic calculators.. and as others said, it should be nasty on varmints
