156 EOL’s for Alberta Bear

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware of LRT, and I just ordered some. Can't wait to try it out. Sounds like a really great powder for long-for-caliber magnum loads!
We started using LRT when Retumbo became unicorn farts to find. It's working for us as a replacement for Retumbo in everything but the 6.5 PRC. My RPM we built has had the throat opened a good bit and let's me have an AOL of 3.60" while being .15 off the lans. My gunsmith did some different things to this one. It's shooting way below 0.25" at 200 yds. Way good for a hunting rifle.

My only question is this. If this is a baited hunt you are very close to the game so will impact velocity be too high for berger 156? Just curious from the experienced berger shooters

Have used norma mrp in a 6.5saum when h1000 wasn't available. 140gr @ 3363fps through a 28 inch barrel. Lots faster than h1000 in equal amounts. Wasn't aware of LRT.

Tell that to anyone who hunts dangerous game. I am not hating on Berger's, they will work most of the time- but if you NEED deep penetration- they are a terrible choice.
I wouldn't hunt elephant, rhinos, or even one of the BIG bear species with a 6.5mm Berger, but I definitely would hunt black bear with them. If they will kill a big bull moose or elk, they will kill a big black bear. For big bears (brown, Grizz, Polar), I would want more gun.

I would certainly agree for big bear, but black bear are a different story. A 6.5 Berger will be plenty for blackies, but for griz or other big dangerous game I would also look at something like a mono or bonded.

Considering it's not a dangerous game hunt, I would be comfortable with that cartridge hands down. I guess I'd ask what the definition of dangerous game is ? For me it's the Apex predators. Tigers, Lions, Crocks, Polar Bears. Most other game is a completely different story. Even Grizzly's while yes they could be dangerous, their not man hunters. Splitting hairs really or picking fly chit out of pepper. Let's face it, even a black bear can be problematic but what's the odds. I guess for each there own. If you feel any bear is dangerous, carry what makes you feel warm and fuzzy. That's the beauty of this game. We get that option. I archery hunt in bear country for that very species. I've been in grizzly country black bear hunting also. Just never know but having a good sidearm or backup gun (shotgun/short magnum big bore) in camp doesn't hurt. I've never had a grizzly encounter and expect one Everytime I'm in their home.

Go to the 4:45 mark to see the shot..

264 WM,156 Bergers started at 3050 fps..Killed elk, deer, antelope and coyotes with that bullet and has put everything DOWN...This bear was the first time I shot twice, but I don't think it was needed if you watch the bullet trace..

Ain't too old today Sir!

Planning a trip to northern Alberta after bear. I'm wanting to take my 6.5 RPM. I have it loaded with Berger 156 EOL's traveling 3120 fps. Anyone see any problems with that?
Great bullet. Wish I could get my hands on some. I live in Arizona so does Berger. Talk to them they are not producing hunting bullets at this time. They cater to the benchrest shooter. Let us know if you see them come available. I built my own just me Bullets
