RELOADED .270 STICK AND CAN NOT CLOSE BOLT SAKO RIFLE

A couple of times I have crushed the shoulder a little with the bullet seater die, causing the shoulder to mushroom just a tad and made the cartridge difficult to chamber. I think it happened in the cam over.

Just a side note. My uncle back in the day, was all about "the hottest rounds" and the most he could roll out in a single session. He brought over some .270 ammo for my youngest brother. He was boasting about having knocked out 300 rounds in a single night, and that it was "loaded to the max". My Dad was not trusting this info, but decided on a trip to the range. Of course, bolt was hard to close on the first round, and hard to extract. Second round when the bolt closed, a round cooked off....session over. Looking at the cartridges....yep, proud primers on half of them, not sized properly at the base, and it seemed the bullets were sitting a little far outta the neck.

If you're not setting back the shoulder in your fl die then most likely you are stretching the case. They usually chamber with a little cam over on the bolt, which is not good on the bolt. You need some baseline measurements, chamber overall length, shoulder setback when sizing etc.

I am reloading .270 using rcbs dies , sierra 130 grain bullets , cases were checked for length RELOADED SHELLS WILL NOT FIT IN SAKO BOLT WILL NOT CLOSE. WHAT GIVE ME ANY SUGGESTIONS.AM I DOING WRONG. i have ordered new calipher and going to measure each winchester casing CAN
Just order one of these. It will tell you what is wrong with the case.

I feel that there at lease 4 things that are wrong. 1. Case length is to long. 2. Bullet not sealed correctly for COAL. 3. Resizing of case not done correctly or incomplete. 4. Possible head space is off. You will need to pull at lease on bullet to start with. Remove the powder from case, but save it. Remove the de-priming pin only. that way you are not de-priming the case that way you will expand the neck to allow for bullet placement. After that again check overall case length to within spec. Using somebody else round to set up your COAL isn't a good ideal. Your reloading manual give you the correct length to start with. You'll learn from there.

Came with loaded ammo
Cycled fine.in the mod 70
Would not cycle in my sako 85 30-06
Marked the casings mod 70 only

Unprimed brass needs to be full length sized. Then if used by the same gun you can neck size only and allow brass to last longer.

Couple thoughts here... case gauges are fine, but really, OP has to set the shoulder back far enough (probably... we are missing some details) to chamber reliably in this specific gun. My guess, like others, is that the shoulder isn't being set back far enough.

I have seen this happen... the expander ball can pull the neck/shoulder forward when it is extracted from the case. Maybe could be fixed with lube inside the case neck?

It is hard to troubleshoot when there is insufficient information to provide sound advice without speculations.

So true.

The following is all basic metallic reloading information. If you don't understand it, your had better learn it from someone.
Which Sierra 130 grain bullet are you using ? Bullet shape can affect seating depth and over all length for the case and bullet combo.
First inspect the chamber and throat area for obstruction or gunk buildup. You should clean both of them well at this time.
If your fired and resized case (empty, not primed, no bullet) fits and the bolt closes, put your bullet of choice in that empty case. Then work on the bullet seating depth. Mark the bullet with a pen, then keep seating it deeper until it fits or fails to seat properly.

DON'T FOOL AROUND WITH LIVE AMMO IN YOUR PRESS!!!

OP said he used an unfired case to set the resizing die. Never done this, always ran the die in til it touched shellholder at top of stroke, turn another 1/4 turn and lock her down for full length resizing. Am I missin somethin.
He used a factory round to set the seater die for a different brand of bullet.

Unless you want to use the crimp feature just back the die out about a sixteenth or more.

Happened to me on my 300WM which I had been loading for years. Die setup for FL die "cammed" over but lightly, turned it down to where it was much more evident, problem gone.
Good Luck
