I found that c-o-w was just $%^$%^% the bears off, so I started using bullets My lightweight is in for Nitride and then back for testing. I can't wait to shoot it! I picked it up a while back at the smiths and it is easy to hold at arms length and shoot one handed except it would likely break my wrist coming in right at 7 lbs. field ready.......Rich

I am new here. I am trying to catch up on the benefits of the 6.5 Sherman short compared now to the 6.5 PRC and the problems this forum mentions about dies.

We dont have any current die problems that I'm aware of?? The SS will easily outrun the PRC and do it in a short action. Also, if things go according to planned, we'll have fully formed ADG brass in 2-3 weeks

Really like the looks of the 6.5SS and SST. I have a Rem 700 short action that I want to use for a build on one of these two. I want to build one on a 22" max length barrel as I shoot suppressed. Long range target, always wanted to smack metal at 2k, and an elk hunt are my plans for the rifle. Which of the two would you suggest Elk? Twist rate as well to run 140s and heavier for elk?

So is either one better than the other, being suited for a short action shooting 150s? If the SS shooting 150s will fit in a short action without stuffing the bullet way down in the case, what is the purpose of the SST? Sorry for my ignorances.

The 150's are pretty long so would crowd a 3" magazine. The SST FB would run it a little shorter.

The 150 SMK fits in a true SA w. Wyatt's box just fine for the 6.5SS. You will need to seat them to about .045" jump to fit in an Accurate .300WSM mag though. And it smashes game. This is at .022" jump.

In fact, it is my go-to bullet for game in my 26" 1:7.5" twist.

I also have a 20" 1:7.5" 6.5SS. Pushes the 156 Elite @ 2976fps suppressed with a near max load. Working on a bit of a lighter load with the 144 LR Hyb too.

Lance why the 1:7.5 over the 1:8 twist? And thanks for the very detailed info on your setups, pretty **** impressive what your getting out of a 20"!
Also, is the brass from ADG readily available for SS and SST?

Berger states "minimum" twist rate for the 144 LR Hyb and 156 Elite as "1:8" (or faster)". Not "optimum" twist rates, like their old boxes used to state. Great marketing ploy to sell more bullets for factory rifle twists. Go to the twist rate calculator, and depending on your inputs, it suggests minimum twist rates. In some cases, faster than what the box states.

Sierra states 1:7.5" twist for the 150 SMK too.

I would rather have a very stable bullet than marginally stable in flight if long shots present themselves. Plus, I have heard that faster twist increases terminal performance on game.

Call Rich Sherman about brass availability. I can't answer that question for you.

Never used the twist rate calculator before, that is an awesome resource! Looks like 1:7.5 it is!

I've got a Bartlein cf blank 1:8 finish at 22inches. Originally was for a 6.5 prc but I really want to do a 6.5 ss now. Is this barrel gonna be too short with this twist for the ss? I've tried to search for info on a shorter barrel for this cartridge and haven't found anything

Your Bartlein will work fine.
