308 win hunting bullets

For hand loads I have used a few bullets in .308 Win and .30-06. From 125 grain to 180.

Current fav hunting bullet in my 30-06 is a Hornady Interlock, a simple 150 grain flat base soft point. They shoot tight (sub moa) when I do and they flat out work well.

Hunting Bullets I have used and like in .30 (125-180 grain), no particular order:

Hornady Interlock (125, 150, 165gr)
Hornady SST (125-150gr)
Hornady ELD-X (178 gr - no critter experience yet but like what I saw on paper!)
Sierra Game King (165, 180gr)
Sierra Pro Hunter SP (125, 150, 165gr)
Nosler BT Hunting (125, 150, 180gr)
Nosler AB (125, 165gr)
Nosler Partition (165gr)

The 168gr Nosler Ballistic Tips are not only great performers on game, they also are more accurate than any bullet I've used. Here are a few examples. These are factory seconds from Shooter's Pro Shop

I am still using the 168 amax I have left. I also have a couple boxes of 168 ballistic tips and some hammers I am about to start working up. The hammers are available and fast shipping give Steve a call

Thanks
Buck

Looking to buy some bullets for my 308 win I've found s few different ones from 150 grain to 180 grain.ive always used factory stuff until now this will be my first year using my own hand loads.was wondering what yall have had good luck with? I wanted to use nosler but I haven't found any.about all I can find are seirra, hornady and bergers
I use Nosler 165gr Partitions. Deadly and accurate using Imr3031 powder. Sierra gamekings are quality also. I can't speak for the others.

Well what I've found in stock today is 150 grain nosler accubond and 165 grain seirra game king spbt and 150 grain hornady interlock spbt. I'm going to go out there and say the accubond would be best out of theses? I've never used any of them

Sierra game kings work well on deer. I use 168 barnes ttsx for all around fantastic performance!

I recently filled a doe tag with my truck gun which is a 308. I used my normal truck gun ammo which is the Mk319 mod O, 130gr SOST round. It bang-flopped her like nothing at 75 yards. Small entrance and soup inside, with about an inch and a half exit. I'd say it performed perfectly. And its really cooking speed wise, 2900+ from a 16" barrel.

I would go with the 165 sierra gameking either the hpbt or the spbt

I have ALWAYS had SPECTACULAR success with the SGK projo's, be they 165 or 180 grain pellets in my .308, .30-06 and .300 Win Mag, with the 180 grains used almost exclusively in the -06 and Win Mag.
Most animals were DRT and none traveled more than 10 to 20 yards.
Some say the exposed lead tip gets melted off due to friction heat during travel but I say BULLOCK'S!!
NONE of the animals I've taken would agree and several were well beyond 600 yards.
So do the tipped bullets have a higher BC? Probably.
But do the tipped bullets make a tremendous difference when it comes down to reasonable shooting distances?
I doubt it.
What I WILL admit to is (under heavy recoil) the lead tipped projo's can be deformed somewhat but as I mentioned above, that minor amount of disfigurement has NEVER caused a miss at long range or failed to expand upon impact, either.
Some will say the monolithic bullets tend to "cut" more vitals causing more disruption and a quicker or cleaner death and go on to say that a lead based bullet that mushrooms merely pushes aside flesh.
Again, I say BULLOCK'S to that (actually more like BS, but that's another story) and there are untold THOUSANDS of game animals that have succumbed to lead based rounds irrespective if flesh and vitals are "pushed aside" as opposed to "cleanly cut" by a monolithic projo.
If you live in some Third World State (Kommiefornication comes to mind) where any lead based round is forbidden, then your choice(s) are limited.
But for the average hunter shooting out to even distant targets, lead tipped rounds are still formidable and shouldn't me discarded because the Johnny Come Lately copper monolithic doodads claim they are the be all, end all.
Just my $0.02 and over 50 years of experience on the subject, but what do I know, right?
