I am moving this thread to the Rifles, Bullets, Barrels and Ballistics sub-forum.
I shoot it's ballistic twin and I'm a fan.
That was my first big game rifle. Bought it when I was 11 years old. Killed my next 40+ blacktail whitetail and muleys with it and then actually killed 3 bulls with it too. When I was 32 the barrel went south and I switched to 270 WSM. But I always wanted to get another 25-06 so last week on this site I finally got another one! In Ruger No. 1 platform. I'm so excited to take it next year to Wyoming and shoot some antelope and muleys again. Love the 25-06 with 120 grain Partition bullets for Mule deer and elk. Then I use 115 ballistic silvertip for lopes. In my old rifle point of impact was almost identical so I had that luxury. Happy shooting.
I shoot the 25-284. Can't even count the kills on it. Been shooting it since 95 or 96. It was a Semi-custom build by a great gunsmith out of Durango,Co. (George Myer) RIP.
He built 6 different rifle for me before he passed. The 25-284 has always been my favorite. I've always shot 85gr Nosler BTips. It's easy on the shoulder deadly accurate.
I'm glad you got the replacement 25-06. Exactly the same ballistics as mine.

Bought my first 25-06 in 1975 and have been shooting one ever since. I've used 87 gr Sierra SP, 90 gr Win PEP, 75 gr Sierra HP, 100 Nosler BT, 100 Nosler PT, 115 Nosler PT, 120 Nosler PT, 115 VLD, 100 Barnes TSX & TTSX and I'm now shooting 98 gr Sledge Hammers......@ 3375 fps, it's devastating! It's a great cartridge! I'll never be without one!
Bought a nice used mountain rifle in 2506....last loads I made were 110acc....bug holer.....gave it to my son to grow with....he outshot me with it....which I guess isnt in itself real funny...because at 14 he outshot me with my 65284 at 600yd too......

I'm gonna try those 98 grain Sledge Hammers in mine. I'm in California so I need a lead free load. I will still use the 115 Ballistic tip in Wyoming because I really need the higher BC for those windy conditions. What powder are you using with the 98 grain bullets? I always used H4831 for the 115's and 120's and H4350 for the 100s and lighter.
I put a load together for my Dad this year with the 90 gmx. His old Remington 722 had a real short action in 257 Roberts. He rebarreled it to 257 AI which was pumping those 90 grain GMX at 3360 fps. They shot accurate enough but they didn't open up very well on my gel test at 400 yds. So I'm kinda on the fence with them. I've had much better luck with the E-tips. But it was only testing. Haven't killed any animals yet so I'm not going to say they don't work.
53 grains RL16 @.020" off lands....this is a hot load so back off some if you're gonna try RL16
This is the first 3 shot group with the 98 SH.....took only 9 shots to work up the load(6 to pressure test and then these 3 shots).....shot several similar groups to verify.
