Weatherby's new 6.5 RPM cartridge

My 6.5 Creedmoor stabilizes the 124 Hammer in my 1:8" twist Bartlein, sea level and 65 degrees. Sorry, it doesn't get any cooler down here.

Pac-Nor barrels are button rifled and it's possible that the button failed to give you the full twist rate throughout the length of the barrel. It's been seen before with button barrels.

I seen a print on the web the other day and it was for the 6.5RPM. The throat or free bore length was .188 and from my understanding this is about the same on the 6.5X284Norma and the 6.5PRC. So I suspect it should handle the 156 Berger with the correct twist barrel pretty well.

Just remember this is a long cartridge. When using the big 156 Berger and handloaded your COAL will be around 3.6". Some magazine mods might be necessary, especially with older rifles.

I bought this rifle about 2014 or 2012. It was a Cabelas special run. I can take a 7mm loaded with a 168 bergers and fit it in the mag so I think it will be good to go. I just had a lot of fun shooting it till it went south on the groups. Also I took the scope off to use on my wife's hunt for her if she needed to shoot out to some distance. Now I'm looking to re-barrel it and I just think the 6.5RPM or the 264Win would be a good upgrade. The 6.5RPM sounds like it would be the easiest but I might have to buy my own reamer.

That is going to be a bummer on the brass. If that is the case then the 264 Win may be the choice to go with. Only time will tell. A good 1.75 twist about 28 inches and it will get the job done really nice.

This 6.5 Messner isn't going anywhere fast. To see comparisons to the .264 still has me leaning towards a 6.5x61 Super, only there will never be Ammo on the Shelves. I'd never buy Factory Weatherby Ammo Either so there's that. Why do I need the "RPM" again? The 264-270 is 20 years past due and no sign of it ever getting on the Shelf. I'll have to settle for the .264-30TC I guess. It'll sell like bonkers.

If it were me, I would just get a 6.5-06 AI barrel and forget about all the brass problems with Hornady.
