I currently have a custom XP-100 with three barrels, 6mmBR (14twist), 6mmDasher (8twist), & 308Win (10twist).

I have a new 6.5 7.5 twist Bartlein barrel that was purchased for another project.

I am considering spinning it up for a 4th barrel for the XP.

My knee jerk is to build a 6x47L or a 6.5 Dasher with a finished length of 15-16"

What is your knee jerk? 20140628_141902.jpg

With that 7.5" twist bbl, I'd do a case with enough capacity to take advantage of some heavies in 6.5mm...

Something like a 6.5 PRC, 6.5 RSAUM, etc.

My last XP-100 was done in 7 RSAUM. 17.5" bbl. 168's at 2830-2850 fps.

I vote 6.5x47. Fills the gap between your 6mm's and the 308. I have an XP in 6.5x47 I used to take antelope and coyotes. Phenomenally accurate, light recoil and a great choice of bullets to use for most anything.

What length barrel did you end up with?

The three barrels I currently have are all 16", I am thinking about staying the with the same length.

And I agree with you, the accuracy with the XP Platform is impressive when you do you part.

This group was shot with the 6BR barrel. I had 4 shots into a .174" group, was on the trigger for the 5th shot, felt the gun move and did my best to get off the trigger. Boom, turned the .174" group into .563".....Dern, lol

Hi, I have xp 100 in 6.5x284, 16.5" barrel. Gun shoots about .250, and cant be much louder, lol. It shoots 120 ttsx barnes at 3150 fps. It's a 10lbs gun, slings over the shoulder nice and easy.

In that barrel length I question whether you'd get your powder's worth out of a CM or a .260 Just seems like a permanent range clearing fireball. My choice would be a smaller case capacity. 6.5BR maybe?

My barrel is 16" as well. Am averaging 2651 fps with RL-15 and Nosler 120 Ballistic Tips. There is room to safely exceed 2700 fps but groups are running in the .3's and .4's for 5 shots at 100 yards so I figure there is not much to be gained by pushing it. Furthest coyote was 200 yds and two antelope, one at 275 yds and one at 325 yds. The 120 Nosler BT does a truly impressive job.

Thanks guys. The 260 would not be a bad choice, I already have a 308 barrel that works great, so not concerned about barrel not burning enough powder. I run a little faster powder because of the short barrel. And yes it does throw a flame.

Years ago, I helped a friend build a 308 XP for Handgun Silo, it had a 10" barrel. Now that was a flame thrower, lol

It has a 3x12 Burris scope

That stock looks like a Fajen? I had a 7mmBR on a laminated Fajen, shot great. Someone offered me more than I thought it was worth.

They are worth allot more today. Back in the late 70's and early 80's I managed a small change of stores here in So Cal, we couldn't give XPs away for $150. Hind sight, always better.
