Browning A bolt with the boss

Been monitoring for a while and reading everything with interest.

I to have the Browning A-Bolt in .22-250, after spending a summer working up loads with Hornady 55gr. SST's, playing with trigger and fiddling with the B.O.S.S. I now shoot 3 shot groups into one hole at 100 yds.

One of my most accurate rifles. Don't let this one slip away.

Then on the other hand I have a used Winchester in .257 Wby with a B.O.S.S. and I have been struggling with it. Next step is to measure and scope the throat for erosion and see if there is a deeper problem.

I bought an ABolt 2/ BOSS in 30-06 in the mid to late 90s. I use the conventional recoil version. I initially set mine up to shoot Winchester Super X 180 grain.

When I started to reload later, I just left the boss where it had been since then.

This is my goto rifle to this day. I've shot everything from 110 grain varmint loads to big heavy loads into an inch at 100 yards.

I have the opportunity to purchase at a good price a Browning a bolt with the boss. It is a .22-250 anyone have experience with the boss? Likes or dislikes?

I have loaded for and shot 2 Boss units. A 338 and a 30-06 and the '06 would one hole. The other very close and that was with the old Barnes Blue Meanies. It works as advertised in my opinion. If you haven't bought it yet, please reconsider, I don't think you'll regret it.

Not a fan. My .375 Boss came loose going through bush and changed my point of aim tremendously.

Came back from shot show where Browning debuts the Boss. Bought 30-06 Abolt with Boss from rep that bought out the Browning Display at shot show, came with a non ported shroud to put on in place of muzzle brake boss, after I had tuned the Boss to the weight bullet i was going to use.. I still have that 30-06 too. Since then, added bull barrel 22-250, 308, and BAR 300 WM. My fav outta the box hunting rifle. Every one shot .3's or less with handloads. For a short couple of years Boss's weren't allowed in Turkey type shoots around here and other matches for hunting rifles. Then some smart guys started Browning Boss matches with unbelievable scores. Get it and enjoy!!

I have a 300wm Abolt II. It shot very well. How many rounds have gone through the one you are looking at? I would like to get mine rebarreled but it seems to be a pain in the expensive. Enough so I might as well just buy a new rifle that I can change at home. Look into this before buying....

I have a 90's model 70 classic in .300 wm with the BOSS, it's a shooter. It shot near moa with green box 150's and 180's and .5-.6 with 168g Berger hybrids. It's a completely stock action/trigger/barrel with a Boyd's stock on it.

Have a .300 Win mag Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker with BOTH BOSS muzzle ends. one is a radial brake an one is solid for those who don'r like a brake.

Very good accuracy (from 1/2 MOA to 1 MOA) from most factory ammo by fine tuning the BOSS brake. Amazing invention.

It's FOR SALE with an extra magazine AND an extra Browning thumbhole laminated stock. PM me.

Back when I had my first one, it didn't come with one... I called Browning and they sent me one for FREE. Because it was not on my first rifle when it got stolen, and my 2nd A-Bolt II was also a 7RM, and it was used, I kept the Boss CR. Still have it brand new in the plastic bag from Browning, because I shot the barrel out, and I didn't have the smith install the Boss on the new aftermarket barrel. Still have the old barrel, too, with the boss still attached sitting in the barrel bin.

Mine didn't come with one either. I kinda fell for the gimmick back then as I really did not need the BOSS but I guess it had a cool factor that I could not resist. Anyway, I still love "Old" A-bolts. They are just hard to beat. I paid $625 new for that thing in 1995! That was a lot for a rifle back then. In 25 years, I'll guess I've got 1,500-1700 rounds through it and it's still a tack driver. I have buddies that hunt my property that visit from shotgun territory and always ask "can I use that Browning?" Sorry I say. Now that my son's old enough to hunt, you'll have to ask him.

Right. Mine had a note in the box that they were out of stock of the CR Boss when they packaged mine up. I sent that note in via snail mail, and they sent me a free CR Boss.

I didn't care for the radial brake that came with mine as I really didn't find it all that effective so I had a machinist friend build a side port brake for it. The BOSS system still seems to work the same and I now have a brake that makes it a pussycat to shoot. I can't index this brake as accurately as the radial but it was still very close. My sweet spot also remained the same at 3.1 with the 165 Fusions.
