Browning A bolt with the boss

Hello Everyone,
I have the opportunity to purchase at a good price a Browning a bolt with the boss. It is a .22-250 anyone have experience with the boss? Likes or dislikes?

Had two in 7mmRM, and both were extremely accurate. One got stolen, the other replaced that one, and shot the barrel out of it it shot so well. Replaced the barrel, blueprinted the action, and still have it as my main lightweight deer rifle.

How long did it take you to find the sweet spot setting for that boss? I have one on a 30-06 and have taken lots of shots with it at several settings but still haven't found a sweet spot. This will help the OP understand what is involved as well.

I looked on the Browning website and they have a chart on recommended sweet spots for the boss not sure how accurate the chart is.

Not very long once I set it to the recommended length based on bullet weight chart that Browning used to have on their website. This should help the OP...

I can only concur with MudRunner2005.
My buddy had probably the first one built (not really, but this was 1996-97 ish), it was always the most accurate rifle out of the bunch, all us fellas had. 7mm Rem mag.

OP , my third cousin has same caliber 22/250 it's Extremely accurate and he barley sets the Boss brake much ,buy it with Confidence !!! Cheers !

I have a Browning Abolt Eclipse in 22-250 with theBOSS
It is very accurate out of the box

I agree with Hairtrigger, I have the same eclipse with boss it's a one holer at 100yds and ragged hole at 200! It one of my most accurate!

I have one in 300WSM. It is accurate with factory 165gn Federal Fusions and will shoot under 3/4moa if I do my part.
To find the "sweet spot" for any ammo just follow Browning's instructions, it works surprisingly well.

They work! Loud, but they shoot. I got rid of my 270 because of the noise but man that thing shoots! Sold it to my buddy and he put the BOSS with no holes so no recoil reduction but less noise too. Permanent ringing in my ears cured me of any breaks on hunting rifles.

Have been around several of them. Sighting in, building loads, etc. I am a big fan. Usually can be made to shoot extremely well. Two rifles were the exception. One a heavy barreled 300 win mag and the other a 338. These rifles shot very well but the boss just didn't seem to have as much effect on tuning them. Also you can get a conventional recoil boss if you want to get rid of the muzzle blast.

OP - Buy it. I bought an A-Bolt Medallion with BOSS in .243 new in 1995. It is the most deadly rifle I have in my safe and it keeps company with Weatherby's, Coopers, Savages and Sakos. These mid-90's vintage A-bolts came free-floated from the factory and I think from the Miroku aresenal. I've shot factory Federal ammo into a ragged hole with this gun. Back when I got it, I did not reload, so I'd shoot factory 80 and 100 grain stuff for groundhogs and deer, respectively. A 2 hashmark adjustment between the 2 loads on the BOSS was all I needed to do to get sub-MOA performance. That said, I did end up getting the conventional recoil attachment for it because it cracked so loud that I could not hunt with it without ear plugs. No matter, it shot just as well with the conventional recoil attachment and who needs a brake on a .243 anyway? If you do get it, get yourself a conventional recoil attachment as well. Let us know what happens!
