Sounds like you're raising your eyebrows a bit at the fact that others aren't running them as fast as they could. Knock off roughly 50 fps per inch and you'd be right down where they are. 30" barrels are not common.

I agree the 160-180gr range is sort of a sweet spot for the 7RM to get the best combo of speed & BC. But if the .30-06 can handle 180's as an average bullet weight, the 7RM should have no issues pushing 180-200 grain bullets.
I ran a 26" tube at 3050 sooooo there's that. This is my 9th or 10th 7RM barrel on this action. It's my pet cartridge. I know the ends and outs of it. I know how to make them go fast. I know what makes them shoot well. I know that a 180 at 2850 is way under the capabilities of this cartridge. At some point it becomes inefficient when it comparing case capacity vs FPS.
I'd love to see a 200-210ish 284 bullet come out. It would just continue to embarrass the 30 cals.

On average loading a pile of them the 7 mag does better with a lighter bullet than the 180, many I've loaded the 168 in will only run 2950's, if you have one that will scream then a 180 makes sense but on average I've done way better with the 168 and now the 175 is looking like the ticket. I'm still clinging to hope for the 195 in my 28 Nosler.
If you can only get a 168 to run at 2950 in a 7RM, it isn't the rifles fault. Don't wanna sound like a dick but that is completely on your end.

It's because your barrel is fast and likely over pressure, a 28 Nosler or a 7 RUM will max out at the velocities your running. A 7-300 win is maxing out with the best brass. Reality and what your see loading dozens of them.

I ran 162s to 3146 in my last 7mm rem mag 26in barrel. And that was backed off my max load by a full grain

Yeah 3050 with a 180 in a 7RM should be a piece of cake.
I'm shooting 180 ELDMs 3000 fps in my 7-300 wsm, ironically I'm using 270 wsm brass.. talk about fixing it
What really raises my eyebrows is 3100 with 170's from the 270 wsm.. I couldn't get that with 150's when I had mine

Which was kinda my point, mid 3000 seems to be where people are running them. It stands to reason that adding 4" of barrel will net a significant velocity increase. I was not casting doubt on your loading practices
