I'm currently building MY version of the do-all rifle. It will play the role of mountain hunter (100-800+ yards), field hunter, ringing steel out to 1000+, truck gun, and predator rifle. I realize that my thoughts are unpopular, but I believe in becoming extremely familiar and efficient with one rifle rather than moving back and forth between many for different roles. I have a CA Ridgeline chambered in 6.5PRC that I want to keep as light as possible. I am awaiting a new AG Composites adjustable hunter stock and it will be complete but I'd like to re-visit my scope of choice. It currently carries a NF ATACR 4-16x50 on it but feels a little top heavy. I am a proud veteran but don't intend on making a deployment to Iraq anytime soon so I feel as though my scope choice is somewhat overkill. I have only owned NF, Leupold, Vortex, Burris and a few other standard brands. I am looking to fill a void with something that has all of the pieces of the puzzle that are important to me. Here is my criteria:

- Superb glass
- Simple reticle
- SFP
- MOA turrets with positive clicks and excellent tracking
- Lightweight
- Able to take a beating (for mountain hunting, not combat)
- Somewhat compact

I've been eyeballing the Zeiss V6 but also have interest in Swarovski, Leupold, Steiner etc... I can't find in depth info on the March scopes but would like to know more. I realize this may be sort of a repeat post but my question to the EXPERTS here is if you had to pick one scope to carry on your main go to rifle for the next 20-30 years which scope would you pick??

ZMOA. No issues with the turrets. They have a nice crisp feel to them when dialing. Two things I wished it had: illuminated reticle and lockable turret to keep from inadverent rotation.

Funny enough the only thing I can find "wrong" with the Zeiss from my research is the lack of an illuminated reticle. I have not decided if it is a deal breaker or not. I'm used to working without a lockable turret so although it would be nice to have, it wouldn't be anything I'd miss. The V6 is definitely on my list.

In reality, by the time you can't see the reticle it is past legal shooting hours anyway. An illuminated reticle was not a deal breaker for me either.

Ah gotcha now. My son in law just got the Trijicon accupower I think the power level is somewhere around 4.5x30x56 its 34 or 36 oz. which is pretty good for a 34mm tube and 56mm objective. I was impressed at dusk and on 30 power when I looked through it. Price was good too. The 3x24 march has impressed me for its weight I believe is 24oz. But its spendy.

What is the FOV for a 30 power at 100 yards?

I'm confident my SWFA 3-15x42 can handle whatever I throw it on for the next 30 years. I wish I could afford them on all my rifles, but I'm one of those "best value scope" guys, so my opinion won't mean much.

The Nightforce SHV lone might be your best option.

You could stay with the Nightforce brand and rock the NXS 2.5-10x42 (has 1/4 MOA turrets and plenty of reticle choices) or the SHV 3-10x42 with 1/4 MOA turret and forceplex reticle (even has illumination now). Both of those are about 19-20 oz and 30mm tube.
