I was just looking at the Matrix website. Are you guys hunting with the match bullets or just the hunting?

You know my choice Wil! The 150 matrix out of my 6.5 SS has killed game including a moose at 906 yards! The bear you shot made it about 20 yards, right? Not sure a Berger would improve on that. If I remember correctly, you broke both shoulders on the bear at close range. That's darn good penetration and mine expanded on a moose at 906!
I'm just curious if the 165 Matrix will outperform a 170 Berger ;) I've got the right twist rate to spin the 175 Matrix too, if I decide I want to run a longer barrel and drink the "heavy" koolade.
I know Matrix is very likely an underdog (at least unknown) in this scenario, but still curious what guys think.

I have shot both out of a 270-338 rum imp they both shoot very well with the edge going to matrix on closer shots. both bullets at 3300-3350 fps with 99.0 gr rl-50 in Bertram brass in 1-8 twist 27 inch rockcreek barrel

What BC is that 175gr Matrix pushing? I bet whichever bullets your running does work on whatever they hit going those speeds! =)

have not worked with 175 but use .650 G1 for the 165 and that worked out to 600 yards which is the farthest I have shot them not many areas past that where I hunt

JLK makes quality match style bullets that perform very similar as Berger & Matrix on Game. Lot of 6.5 & 7mm offerings. No 277 though.

Berger and Matrix VLD bullets are similar in design.I have 165 and 175 Matrix bullets for my .270 AI with 30" 1:8". My current accuracy load for my 270 AI is pushing the 175 at 2993 FPS. When I ran out the 175s, will be switching to the 165s but might jump into the 170 Bergers instead.

Nothing against Matrix but I think Berger is the better choice.

NOTE:
IIRC, Bigngreen prefers the 165 over the 175 in his .270 WSM.

What BC is that Matrix 175gr pushing in your rifle?

Jut curious why you feel Berger is the better choice. Can you elaborate on that further, in PM if you'd prefer.

I shoot both the 165 matrix and 170 Berger. I shoot the 165 in my 270ss and have had excellent results between 2 bears and 4 deer. I run the 170 in my 270 Sherman and it has only been pointed at coyotes so far and dropped them as they should.
I stocked up when marshal ran matrix so I'm set for a barrel worth on them. Just to many gun choices when I head out and just seems to happen to usually have the ss when I get shots on game.
I still think with your build you should run the 140 Berger classic hunter (that's just me)... thats the fun of it though... testing.
If i had to vote I will go matrix especially after talking with bigngreen and his experience on elk.
