Well maybe just one more!
Larry Potterfield.....

Yep I've converted another AR to to 6.5 Grendel. This time I've deleted a 7.62X39 instead of a 5.56. I now have 6 different calibers and 7 different rifles chambered in 6.5mm!

Infectious!

As I've said the grand kids want to shoot some deer and hogs. Now I don' have to worry about the ammo getting swapped. The thought of one of the grand kids trying to chamber a 7.62 in the Grendel was a little spooky.

So now I don't have to worry about it!

I know the Bear Creek Arsenal barrels don't have the best reputation but the customer service at Classic Firearms has been great so far. Their reviews have been pretty good too.

They sent me a $15.00 off code, so I typed it in the comment box of my order...poofff $15.00 off! Their shipping has been timely. Better than Midway USA my a huge margin. I orderd the barrel and bolt carrier the same day...minutes apart. No BCG yet still from Midway.

20" 5R rifle length gas system, heavy barrel, fluted with nitrite finish. Fit and finish is perfect. With all the details very cleanly stamped on the top of the barrel. It also has the indexing dimple for the gas tube.

Still need the BCG and muzzle device. Forgot to order that...decided to go with the same one I used on the other Grendel. If the stainless looks odd...I will rattle can it black. Just can' beat a $15.99 SS brake with free shipping!

Here is our His and Hers 6.5 Grendel's

So here is a pic of the unfinished 20" peaking out from behind 18"...

Mine has a fixed stock and milspec upper (in the rear) Her' has the collapsible stock and DPMS upper...

Nice, thinking about Grendel on my next build, have 6.8 and didn't know wether to go another one or grendel

A buddy just built a 6.8 because he got a bunch of brass and dies as part of a deal he ran into.

I went with the Grendel because I already have a bunch of 6.5's so I'm only buying one caliber of bullets...if it won' shoot in one caliber I have plenty of other places to use that bullet.

I have a 6.5x47 Lapua and just finished a Remage install on a 6.5-284 Norma. I also have a Bartlein 5r blank in 6.5 just waiting for my next build...maybe just one more after that??

Yeah...I've went way over board in last 12 months.
6.5X55 in a M48 intermediate Mauser
6.5-06 in a 1957 Colombian Mauser
264 winchester mag in a LA Savage
6.5X284 in a Savage Axis
6.5 Creedmoor SA Savage
Now doubled up on
6.5 Grendel's

Those two I've had for years as a 5.56 and 7.62X39...

Any way...as soon as I get the BCG and muzzle device I will be off to the range.

That was one of my considerations with another 6.8

You do realize that this aint exactly the same as having a livewell full of ballyhoo don't you Cap? lol

I got severely hooked on the 6.5's about a dozen years ago. My current lot is (3) 6.5x284's, 260R, 6.5CM, and. 6.5x47. I came off the wagon(for a brief moment)with my AR, necking down the 6.5 Grendel to 6mm(Whitely 6mmAR).

I've noticed the increased it intrest in 6mm. I have not looked into the ballistic of 6mm based AR.

From past experience with a 6mm AI, 6mm Remington and 243...I've struggled with the 6mm killing abilities outside of 200yds.

I don't care for the 300 Blackout and the 5.56 is a terrible hunting cartridge. But I really like 7.62X39, but wish the .310 bullet options were better.

So IMO the 6.5 seem to be the best choice in the AR platform.

Well the 6mm has been getting lots of press lately due to the success its been having in 1000 yd competition.
As for hunting, it does very well on long range varmints, which is essentially what it is.
But Cap, the ARs sort of remind me of the boats resembling Clorox bottles with windows. Fugley. lol

IMO, the higher velocity of the 6mmAR with high BC bullets at velocities gives very good ballistics, improved over the 6.5G when loaded in the AR platform. 2750-2800FPS with the 105's. Superbly accurate.
5 shots at 100 yards out of my Hart barreled 6mmAR..

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the 6mm. Just curious what bullets you were using to have had struggled with killing ability outside of 200 yards? Until this last season (hunted with a 6.5) I had used a 6mm with 95 grain bergers or a 6 AI with 105's for 10 years and had excellent success from 2-800 yards on Kansas whitetails. I believe I even used 87 grain vmax's one year (leftover prairie dog bullets) with good success on a shorter shot.
