SCHOOLS- no longer soft targets

Yes, and no... The spelling "Nikolas" is a very common Russian spelling of the name (as well as Hispanic), and Cruz (while also a very common Hispanic last name), could have been shortened along the way from Cruzchev...Or something to that effect. Not saying it was, just pointing out that it could be a possibility. And Dimitri has always been a very popular name in the Ukraine, although his last name does sound very Greek, I will give you that.

That's where my line of thinking was... It was just thinking out loud, nothing really meant by it.
That part of the world was Christianized by the Greek Orthodox Church over 1000 years ago. Everything from the alphabet to the names of saints (which are the most common given names in Christian countries) are based on the Greek language. So any parallel is based on that alone, and nothing more nefarious. Western Europe was Christianized by the Roman Church. Different alphabet, different spelling and pronunciation of the same names.

The Spanish surname Cruz means "cross" and has nothing to do with Khrushchev.

You're right. I took 3 years of Latin, 2 of Spanish, and and 6 of French... The "romance languages". In Latin, I learned a lot more about Ancient Greece and and the Greek Orthodox Church. We also learned a lot about the Romans, as well. It was much more interesting than the other languages (to me), because the history that went along with it. It's also funny to see how many words we use in English have Latin context...More-so than any other context. You learn a lot more than you realize when you learn Latin.

I know it had nothing to do with Kruzchev... It was quite a stretch, at that point I was being a bit facetious. I have a different personality than most... Most of the time my way of dealing with tragedy is humor, but I often forget too late (like in this instance) that some might find that offensive or rude, especially given that this "wound" is so fresh, because they don't process things the same way I do. If anyone is offended by my attempt at humor, I apologize.

In a post on Facebook, Acevedo said he was "not ashamed to admit I've shed tears of sadness, pain and anger" after the shooting.

"I know some have strong feelings about gun rights, but I want you to know I've hit rock bottom," he said, adding he would "de-friend" anyone who posted anything about "guns aren't the problem."

Can't imagine the pain and suffering this community is going through, but it's not good when Law Enforcement starts thinking this way.....

How did we get here? From cussing, fighting, and bloody noses to killing ones class mates. Guns, knives, bombs, cars, and trucks have always been around. A news organization said it was second generation immigrants that were to blame. Another theory the internet. And another video games. These with their total disrespect for life. Maybe the break down of the family and the church? The train is off the track. It's time to put it back on.

I believe it is the last thing you mentioned. The nation as a whole, has taken away the ability for children to be raised by there parents. Back in the days of cussing, fighting, & bloody noses, we had the fair of our parents as our biggest threat. How many of you herd this as a kid? ( you wait till your father gets home!) Now, If you dare discipline a child. The schools have taught them that your parents should never touch you, & your intitaled to everything that an adult is. And the child can get a lawyer if they have been offended. (don't get me wrong, there are definitely some parents that go way to far & need to back themselves, but this is a majority statement & not a specific case). The falling of church, I see next, & yes of course the desensitizing from video games. JMO!

Boys, I'm tellin ya....as a school resource deputy I see A LOT of kids that are just nasty disrespectful to the staff....and when the parents get called to school (if they even bother to get up off the couch to answer their phone) the kids are just as nasty disrespectful to them. I am a 70's-80's kid and was raised in a church-going home, went to a small, private high-school where you didn't dare step out of line. IF you did, you received corporal punishment and you got it again when you got home. There's not enough of that anymore and then factor in just the simple things like internet, social media, horrible music, social apathies and there you have it.....geo4061's proverbial train has derailed. I fight the good fight at home (I'm sure WE ALL HERE do), but I'm scared to death when my little girls walk out the door every day....

This is my take on it, could be totally, all wet, but here goes.
I believe, as a few others have mentioned, that when corporal punishment was abolished, that was the beginning of the end.
Secondly, when the video games came on the scene, they replaced some psrents, and parenting skills, and became babysitters. And very unfortunately, teachers.
In our schools, they've even modified the Pledge of Alligence, and football players take a knee, when the National Anthem is played!!######!!!!
Where, how, and why is all we can come up with, and no good answers.
Then, we have the new regime, that will be our new leaders, that havent developed , or dont even know what a work ethic is!
Don't know where it started, but it needs to change, or life as we have come to know, will be a thing of the past!
News Flash!

look at hip hop culture and the violent disrespect it shows to anything that is not itself. look at the complete disrespect shown to parents in tv and the movies. Fathers are shown to be complete imbeciles (Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin etc.) who are not worthy of any respect. Look at the disrespect in tv and movies towards men in general and "old white men" in particular - like our founding fathers. Look at the violent disrespect shown towards the Christian Church by the leftist activists and how that has seeped into the "academic" circles which then indoctrinate our kids. These are all the current incarnations of an old strategy which uses whatever tactics are most fashionable (and therefore effective) at the time.

All of these things are collectively referred to as "the culture war" and it is no secret. It is not a random, unplanned migration of values and attitudes. It is being deliberately guided by a fantastically organized leftist movement. Anyone can read what these people think and desire because the underlying philosophy is Marxist. So read Marx, Lenin, Bukharin, and Alinsky and prepare to be horrified at the blueprint which awaits us.

I was a teacher for many years. The school leadership was as far left as anyone here can imagine. The union was radically far left and demanded political conformity. The department leadership was run by a marxist who took all the highest level kids for himself and then refuse to teach, but rather indoctrinated on the finer points of progressivism and political correctness. Any teachers who did not toe the political line were punished.

And yes, the deliberate undermining of the church and Christian values in this country is a major factor. As the marxists themselves insist (I can give you documentation if you would like) a person cannot believe their philosophy and be a Christian at the same time. It's one or the other. Christianity is attacked every day at school. No wonder then that this latest school shooter, like so many of the other ones, had satanic paraphernalia in his possession when he went on his rampage.

My wife says the same thing! why are men always betrayed as imbeciles in our society.( like your examples)

I call BS on this hip hop caused violence theory. Why not blame Mat Dillon, John Wayne or Chuck Coonnors? They pulled guns and killed on a regular basis and this was way before hip hop. Yet some are quick to say hearing hip hop has more of an influence than seeing this glorified killing on TV.

it is passed time that we secure our schools. Plain and simple. Try going into a federal court house with a gun and see how that works out for you. If we can secure courthouses we can secure schools. It may cost but it is past time to get started.

On another note, I have no problem with kids speaking out on this issue. They are kids and I don't necessarily expect them to be coherent. I know they can be easily manipulated into echoing somebody's agenda. No big deal.

It is entertaining to see how many of you trust the government to teach your children religion, while at the same time seem to be balking on the government teaching your kids about gun control.

So this sums up the fact that now not only Ar15's need to go but shotguns and revolvers......But then wait.... also this weekend in North Carolina a man drives his jeep through a restaurant running over his own family. A quote in the article says he was suffering from Mental illness, and had taken precautions, like having all guns removed from his home. I thought if we could just ban guns there wouldn't be a problem? The American People don't want to dig down to the root cause of issues, and solve them.....

By all means protect our Schools, but we also need to start dealing with the mentally ill people that are living around us. Today's hero's that kids look up to are a far cry from the heros of old who stood up to evil, and yes killed in some cases........
