300 weatherby for large game like elk and bear???

welcome k98k, any uncles that shoot? anyone in family or relation reload? it would be great for you to try as many rifles as you can. at your age a 12 gauge shotgun would almost put me on my butt .shooting is progressive if we have the passion ,funds and time to grow with it. Congrats on your Mosin, how many rounds have you fired through it. Got to give you credit your way above the curve for your age. my shooting progression when I started hunting was 1st deer driving no gun with my uncles next a borrowed 30/06 was a lot of recoil ,when Mother bought me my first 30/30 w-94 , keep that 5-7 years and then bought a 270 pump in a 760 rem gamemaster ,then 4-6 yrs later got my 1st Bolt action rem bdl 270/win. i'm 61 yrs young proably older then your Father, but still hunting & shooting ,ever come to wis? Dream's are Great I try not to step on Any one's letalone mine. enjoy and Welcome again. jjmp

I looked at reloading and i want to do it so that will be up my alley. I also like large rifles so. I dont want it to run ethier because that isnt fun in florida with all the bush that never goes away. Personally the 2 does i got on the 2 hunts ive been on dropped instantly so I hope to keep the style up

Since you like the 300 weatherby and seem to feel it's the right fit for you i say go for it. Let us know how it shoots too. Once it you get it all set the next thing on your list can be saving for a hunt out west for elk so you can really stretch it's legs. I remember dreaming of elk hunting at your age. I got lucky and got a job right after college in colorado. Never thought that would happen and that elk hunting would be a couple times in a lifetime sort of thing for me. Now it's a every year deal.

Enjoy the new rifle. Let us know what you end up getting.

Ive shot about 140 rounds through it and it doesnt kick bad. I learned kinda fast to hug it to me and that alist completey Elemenates the recoil. My family doesnt reload to my knowlege but ill ask them to be sure. I dont think any family owns any magnum rifles so ill have to see myself

ok Great start, and Good luck, Congrats on two deer in two hunts very good on you! nice talking and keep us in the loop ok? thks jjmp

Well I wolnt be getting it till December if I can convince my family to buy a 2000 dollar rifle. Hopefully i can use getting a job at 15 as leverage

Ok thanks but I dont reload yet. I do hope to next year though. My mom might be afraid id blow myself up cause she is a liberal and is not a fan of guns or hunting

Maybe start with a cheaper weatherby vanguard 300 weatherby to make sure you like having your teeth rattled that much?

I need it left handed though so that is the one set back as our retailers in melbourne, florida only have certain ones in any magnum caliber and even less left handed ones. I only use right handed bolt action rifles that are military surplus. But ill look into it although at academy they all were 2000 dollars

k let me know , Laker's rite on, great rifle had one just sold it to my 1 st cousin for his elk rifle, guess what it was a 300 (bee) WBY magnum, now their putting 26 inch bbl.'s on the newest ones . thks jjmp.
