28 nosler 195 berger RE33 testing

I have never had a problem with them on a close shoulder shot, I'm just making a suggestion with these high velocities and the way these mergers are designed to perform it makes sense not to aim fore heavy bone inside of say 400yds if you don't have to. I remember people saying they had issue at close ranges with one of the other Bergers causing massive external damage at close ranges. I m just suggesting hitting the shoulder bone at closer ranges is just going to cause the bullet to expand even more violently at those speeds.

Thanks these shoot really well in my 28 nosler and leaning towards these as my 2018 elk round.

Snake,
How many grains of Retumbo?

I killed 2 big bulls this year with my 28N/195EOL, Retumbo at 3070fps. One shot at 312, other at 725, both bulls walked a couple steps and fell over, bullet fragments were on the opposite shoulder with major damage in the vitals. So far am happy with the bullet performance.

I'm at 78.2gr of retumbo, using Fed 215 primers, and 0.050 off the lands. Load shot same at 0.010 and 0.050 off so went with 50. Is a hot load in my rifle, I did get 7-9 firings on my first set of brass, it does loosen the primer pockets. I had my firing pin hole bushed to
help, no cratered primers anymore, just a light ejector mark.

Thx snake,

I had my stock 7 rem mag punched out to 28 Nosler. Loaded 3 rounds at 75,76,77,& 78 of retumbo and .020 off of lands. It liked 76 grains with two in the same hole and one right above them. The only down side is the rifle kicks like a mule! I did have some ejector marks also. Hopefully my brass will last that long. Off to the range tomorrow to chromo.

I need to order reloading dies for my new 28N.
What reloading dies are being used for best accuracy?

Thanks for the comments on the Whidden dies. I'll buy a set.

I need to decide on a barrel and reamer specs.
I'm planning on a Proof Carbon 26" and 8 twist, Sendero contour.
Does anyone have comments or info on the accuracy and how a Proof carbon compares to Bartlein or Brux?

Once I get the barrel I'll need a reamer for the 195 Berger.
Does anyone have the specs... or better yet, a properly cut reamer to sell or rent?

Email or PM Ryan Pierce, he'll give you his specs and since he does so many he could probably sell you a reamer. (They do wear out so he probably orders a few and he could give you the info of his supplier) His setup is perfect for the 195's and is good with the 180 eldx's too but was made for the 195 bergers.

I should have been more specific, I have a 28 Nosler that shoots 180 Bergers really well. I just got shipping notification on my 195's so I am looking for reloading data and just general info on the combo.

I run barrels from all 3 manufactures all are top notch and will shoot great. I'm starting to lean towards proofs on my hunting builds, but if you don't want to spend the extra cash a #3 or 4 steel barrel will work just as good.
I've had good luck with whidden dies. I've heard of a few problems from time to time but whidden seems to make it right promptly.

I have a 28 built on a proof as well as a Brux honestly I like the proof the best. Here is one of my better 3 shot groups at 961 yards. 76 gr Retumbo 195 Bergers our of the proof
