Berger 215 Hybrid ---- H1000

Yes Sir on the weigh and sort but not the annealing. its all new Norma brass going on 4th loading on some. Except the best group brass. That group came from second firing and only neck sized after first firing. These 5 cases have not seen a third load as I have been holding them at ransom until I got all the answers.
you are also correct on case trim length at 2.621 again the case length is what came out after second firing and best group. All other cases have been trimmed to that length or left alone if not at the length yet.

I'm thinking there is much to this bullseye theory. Running the NF at about X14 even at 100yrds.

Thanks for all the thoughts and ideas from everyone. I'm excited to test this theory at the range.

I shoot at those white targets with red diamonds and 1" squares.
I ALWAYS aim at the points of the diamonds, not the centers of them. As was said "aim small miss small". When you're shooting .2x ~ .3x groups you need to be aiming at the same size target all the time.

Good Luck.

Barrelnut I think you are correct. The more I think about this more I think this is the problem. Almost wondering if in the back of my mind I'm not also chasing these bullet hits. I don't do this with intent but wonder if its not happening to some degree. I have caught myself looking at the holes in the target and thinking "****, low left just a 1/4"

I would shoot at a higher power on the scope too, if it's a 5.5x22. You ought to think about annealing your cases at 4 reloads. The loss of spring back on the cases will change your neck tension and accuracy.

Think I attached some of the target images

2 targets showing 5 shot groups at 100 yards and one 3 shot group at 200 yards.
these are 3 of the best groups but none have been repeatable.

I did get my lab radar the other day and that thing is amazing.

the three shot group was followed up last weekend with a 10 shot group to check ES and SD. Again the same load did not group well but the ES and SD were confirmed good with a 10 shot ES of 16 fps and SD of 6. Interesting this was 5 of the 10 rounds landed between 3,072 and 3,074 with the first and last round causing the greatest spread.
these were all double measured loads on the Lyman gen 5 and a bean scale, all using same lot primers, powder and bullets. all cases trimmed and weighed.

These loads are on 4th firing of cases so I'm thinking neck tension from not annealing is what caused the ES spread.

Thought k would throw in my experience with this 215/H1000 combo since I am getting excellent sub 1/4 moa accuracy and my rifle certainly likes a somewhat unique load.

Here's the specs on my rifle and load:
300 win mag, Borden action
25" Hart barrel 1:10
215 Berger seated .085" from the lands
73.5 gr H1000, 2850 fps

The other odd part about this rifle/bullet combo is I had to drop 1 grain when I switched from the 210 VLD, when Broz has shown many times that the 215 typically needs an extra grain over the 210. Broz, correct me if my memory is wrong on this.

Also forgot to mention that I anneal after every shot with my own home brew annealing machine and use Redding Imperial lube in the necks. The annealing/wax combo gets me ES in the 7-9 fps range, shot over a Magnetospeed.

J I'm thinking the bull is too large for me to get a good zero. Does this seem crazy or just an excuse because I cant shoot for crap? The target is really the only thing I have not duplicated right down to weather conditions.

Yes use a small aim point and try to quarter it. Even a dot drawn with a marker on tape will work for me, but I keep it small and use fine crosshairs like the MOAR T Thats my little finger in this pic and it was my big 338 prone in the dirt off a bipod and rear bag at 100

10-4
as you can see from some of the targets posted the rifle can do the job. I just cant make it happen with any consistency.
smaller aim point will be my next move. Then I need to backup and re-visit some of these loads I have condemned do to my poor judgement.

also thinking I might want to slow it down a bit. while i'm not seeing much pressure signs even running at 3,075 fps seating depth is critical. I'm good at 79.0gr H1000 up to .045 jump but at .050 jump I get hard bolt lift and .055 they will not eject well.

All rifles are different, but as a general rule most of these max out at 77 gr of H-1000. The good news is that most 300 win with the 210 or 215 are also very accurate at 77 gr.

What velocity are you getting for the 210 and 215 gr bullets? If I recall correctly, you're running a 28" barrel?

Thanks -- Todd
