Your favorite Quarter Bore and why

I only hunt Whitetails, my Model 7MS.257 Roberts gets the job done.

25-06. You do not need a fast twist barrel for heavier than normal bullets. You say you will not be shooting over 300 yards. The 25-06 with 100 gr to 120's will kill any deer alive out 500 yards. Got my 1st on in 1966, gone thru 4 of them. Settled on 100's for everything many years ago. In my opinion, one of the finest deer, antelope and medium game cartridges ever. Low recoil, flat shooting and everyone I had would shoot under 3/4" for 5 shots at 100 yds. Longest kill on coyote was 620 long steps.
I like the 25's a lot and have owned and now own all of the comman 25 calibers (including a few Imp.) from 250-3000 up to the 257 Bee. I chose the plain jane 25-06 Rem. as my most favorite and most used as it checks alot of boxes for what I consider desireable.

I'm considering a build on a custom action with lightweight components and am thinking of what caliber to choose. I have a .243, a few 6.5's, .270, 7mm, and 308. I do not have any .25's, and I think this is a good time to round out my collection. I hunt PA whitetail deer and have been known to walk a few miles scouting in season. I also rarely get shots beyond 300 yards. I'm thinking the 257 Roberts would be a great choice for me.

I would love to hear from all you quarter bore aficionados as to your favorite 25 caliber cartridge and why. Feel free to throw in a hunting story along the way. Looking forward to the campfire chat.
I really enjoy the several 250 AI that I own, I have said it before that Sierra uses the 250 AI for accuracy testing all their 25 caliber bullets. I have had really good luck with 100 grain Nosler Ballistic tips and Barnes 80 grain TTSX bullets and Reloader 15, my last build was with a 9 twist Schneider barrel with 5 polygonal cut, first three shots were one hole, 85 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips over 41.5 grains of Reloader 15, I have never done that before and may never again. With all that being said I am a big fan of the 257 Roberts, 257 Weatherby and the 25-06, just start with one and end up with at least one of each of the other option in 25 caliber.

i love the 257 roberts, for those not familiar with this old round it is worth a look.

Depends on how much you want the gun to weigh, and what you're going to hunt. 257 Bob, with a faster twist for heavier bullets would be a fine choice for most things, and I've owned quite a few different 25's. - dan

if you must have more and can reload a very nice, easy. 257 weatherby clone is the 257 baker. its simply a 264 wm necked to 257. i literally run 264 into the fl sizer and reload 257 baker. i still love the roberts, but right now brass is hard to find and expensive, course you cam make your own from 7x57.

Why not get the best of both worlds and do a .25 version of the ole 30-30- the .25-35! I bet you would be the only one that has a fast twist .25-35 😂. Case design sucks though... So you'd probably have to do .25-35 AI or something 😂

My grandfather had a 99 carbine in .25-35. Was a neat rifle
I have my Great Grand Mothers 25-35 that she used for deer hunting. It's the old Winchester lever and fun to shoot.

I love the 25's.
Years ago I was going to do a 25 Grendel in a mini action. Went with the 6.5 instead and have been regretting it ever since.
But a 25 arc/Grendel in a howa or cz mini would be the cats meow for inside 300 with 90 or 100 grain bullets.
I have shot deer with 25's ranging from a M1 carbine in 256 win mag tow 25 wildcat based on a shortened 416 rigby. I love them all. The wildcat I have to use copper bullets in it since even partitions blow up on the hide.
Currently I am using an ar in 25 Wssm and a 250 savage in a m77 for my 400 and in shots.
Again I love the quarter bore

257 weatherby, it's lightning out of a rifle that gets the job done, not to mention they are accurate. 100 yard target picture.

I've shot a 25-06AI every since I met P.O.Ackley, in Holiday, Utah in 1965. He had closed his gunsmith shop in Oregon over a decade before and, as I remember, his wife ran Tandy Leather. I was fortunate enough to get my Remington 700BDL 25-06 rebarelled to a 25-06AI and have taken everything from rock chucks, coyotes, mule deer, whitetails and elk out to 600 yards. It's one of my favorite guns to shoot and reload with 117 Nosler Partician bullets for large game. I've now got a Hart barrel that shoots sub half inch groups, my 4th barrel..

I have two favorites, at this point.. For a short action the .25 Creed is amazing. With the small primer pocket Lapua you will get great velocity and accuracy.. I've done several of them.. For the a long action the .25-06 Ackley is pretty sweet.. Also have experience with several of these..
Would recommend either without hesitation .. There is a difference in recoil between the two if that concerns you..
