Your dream rifle

Mine is a simple one.

I would like to have a Ruger #1 chambered for a 257Roberts with a very high quality 2X7 scope.

I would like to have it engraved with a simple outdoor scene and have my name engraved on the "lever" of the rifle.

I would also like it to have a presentation quality Black Walnut stock and fore end, checkered by only the best stock maker in the United States.

I would also like to have an exact replica Black Walnut stock with the same checkering done in a satin finish that I could swap out for when I know I will be boonie romping around somewhere.

Easy peasy.

Dakota #10, Ruger no1 or Hagn action, custom wood, skeletonized grip cap and buttplate, shadow line cheekpiece, color case hardened, octagon barrel, maybe skinners peep in .256 newton or .348 w.

If we were talking a display gun, Matt Roberts from MNR custom in Springfield VT makes some of the sexiest Safari rifles I have ever seen.

But this thread hasn't been active in a bit so I want to revive it and get a little weird and creative here, blend some old and new.

1) Sako Finnwolf but in stainless that has been cerakoted in armor black, in a custom carbon fiber stock or wood laminate with nice scale checkering, done in 338 Federal with a 21 inch barrel with factory iron sights intact. Warne Maxima base/ring combo with a vintage gun scopes restored Weaver V4.5 II or a nice Maven 2-10x38
2) Remington 7600 with a Boyd's laminate forest camo stock, stainless 20" McGowen Precision barrel, cerakoted barrel and action patriot brown, ghost ring sights with a hooded NECG narrow blade up front in your standard 30-06 with Talley detachable rings and a restored vintage gun scopes Redfield 2-7x33 (I am building this one as we speak!)
3) Remington 660, 21 inch, braked, stainless cerakoted midnight blue barrel, NECG half moon iron sights with sourdough blade up front, Boyd's platinum stock with fleur de lis standard checkering, heritage arms aluminum bottom metal, chambered in 350 Remington magnum.
4) Savage 99 in 308 Win, Boyd's Nutmeg stock with checkering, barrel cut to 20 inches, weaver imperial mounts and rings, restored weaver V7-II wide, action and barrel cerakoted in midnight blue while retaining the brass counter and case colored lever (this is being built also as we speak by Matt Roberts at MNR custom). Sling swivels with a Deerfield leathers sling

I tend to be the same way. Even when I am very careful with stuff, it gets dinged. Life is not fair.

I had a custom .308 Norma magnum nicely blued in a walnut stock hanging on the wall in the garage. Also I had a 427 Ford engine short block waiting for more work. I was having a garage sale and my brother came by. I asked him if he would take care of things while I went to town and got something to eat and brought it back. When I got back he handed happily handed me 150 bucks and told me he sold the gun off the wall for $75. Then he told me he sold the engine for $75 and threw in my fire extinguisher because they were going to use it in a race car. I asked how they got the engine loaded. He told me four guys got together and put it in a pickup.

I could hardly believe my ears. Neither of those items had a price tag on them because they weren't forsale.
Your brother should be cut out of every will and invited to no family gatherings ever again unless one of those family gatherings happens to be him invited to fight master blaster in the thunderdome.

Tikka t3x 6mm creed (20" threaded barrel), gunwerks Clymer stock, bushnell lrhs2 scope.

Pretty simple, outside of the stock which is only made for a 700 footprint

These rifles are a thing of beauty. I have all my work done by this gentleman. You can watch some of his videos on YouTube but there is probably not a better gunsmith in the US than Matt Roberts.

Howdy !

Here's a couple pics of my M-336XLR .35 Remington.

Had a good 100yd 5-shot group going......until last 2 shots that went a bit wide. Those were a result of my misreading what I thought the windflag was showing me. Aaaack !!!

Oh well, at least I know where the challenge lies !

With regards,

That's quite impressive for any gun, especially a lever. I bought the ML McPherson book on accurizing factory rifles and my Savage 99 is up at MNR as we speak getting the accurizing recommendations from his book. Once I have the rifle back in hand and can shoot again (just had my neck fused 2 days ago). I will post some range pictures!
