Winchester 55 Open Bolt Single Shot 22

The Winchester model 55 is an open bolt firing single shot .22 LR rifle. It was made between 1957 and 1961. About 45,000 units were made, the guns are not serial numbered, as it was not required for .22 rifles until 1968.

The model 55 does not have a magazine or provision for one. Winchester never made a semi-auto version of this gun; it was conceived of, and made as, a single shot. Cartridges are loaded one at a time through a loading gate on the top of the rifle and empties ejected out the hole on the bottom. There is a cocking handle for pulling the bolt open from a dud cartridge or when it is closed on an empty chamber, but normally the bolt is retracted by the preceding shot, and the gun is ready for a new round to be loaded at that point, the trigger pulled and so on until you get tired of singly loading the gun. I guess the idea was as a more modern youth gun than the traditional bolt action single shot. Compared to other Winchester .22 rifles this one did not catch on, and had a short production span.

Rifle is in very good condition with handling marks and 95% finish. Bore is very good plus condition.

Price is $300.00 picked up or $325 shipped to FFL only.

Thank You for looking and Have a Great Day!
