Well my Dad has a VFR with three sides on the barrel, LOL!!!
I'm looking at rebarreling a Ruger M77 Safari Magnum, and the top of the action is FLAT. I'd love to index a flat of a Hexagonal barrel (the Octagonal might be too much!) to line up with the top flat of the big Ruger action. I think it'd be sexsay! ;^)

Dont forget about Lilja as he makes some great Octagon barrels and can do a taper on it as well.
