I was just wondering for those who shoot the .243 AI, what bullet and powder you shoot.............Im new to this round and would like some feed back.

I have tried the 95gr berger with 48.5 gr. of RL19 .......................Whats your best powder bullet combination..............what kind of veloctiy do you get?

Right now im trying Hybrid 100V shooting 46.5 gr but have some loaded up to 47 47.5 and 48 Have not tried them as yet

Do the Berger bullets work best with a bullet jump? Im working with that right now .005 increments.................

Greg

Holey Moley... I am still fireforming with 95gr Bergers and 41gr of H100V and based on back calculating bullet drop (6" drop from 100-285 yards) the G7 calculator figures they are going 3400fps. I did an 11 shot group and vertically they were within 1" so I can't imagine one could go with 48gr of H100V... Wow. I thought an Ackley chamber got you about another 10% and 41gr is listed as a Max load for the regular 243 Win ?

I would suspect you must be close to max load already. Better wear gloves and safety glasses...

Right now im trying Hybrid 100V shooting 46.5 gr but have some loaded up to 47 47.5 and 48 Have not tried them as yet

depends on your twist rate as far as bergers, i amd shooting a 243ai 1-8 twist, benchmark 85 gr sierra HPBT H-414 44.5 grains Federal 210 Match with Laupa Brass. getting 3400fps and 1/2 groups. im about .005 away from the lands as far as bullet . seems real stable. also shot some 90 Noslers again with H414

I have a 1x9 twist ...................got groups at .589 with Rl 19 but cant find any the reason why im using 100V. I cant seat my bergers out far enough to touch the rifleing.................I heard that H 414 is a good powder for the Ackley.
When using RL19 I was shooting 48.5 gr. Im shooting 46.5 with the 100V

Not to many options right now with the the powder shortages.
If I cant keep my groups at .599 or less Im happy...............I dont have a crony so have no idea of what the RL19 load was ............

I just need to hear from anyone out there that has more experiance than I do and what works for them so I have and Idea of what direction to head to

Thanks

Hodgdon shows a load of 43.7C with the 100gr on the back of the Hybird 100V can so I started with 44.0 and worked up .................I got no accuracy with 44.0 up to 46.0 not until I hit 46.5 did my groups come down from 1.5 to .8 So now im messing with bullet seating deapth.....................We will see but so far Im not impressed with the Powder...................Would much rather be working with H414

I went back and checked and it was in fact the berger reloading manual that listed 41gr as a max 243 Win load.

If you go to .243 Win + .243 AI Cartridge Guide and scroll down about half way down the page, they list loads for regular and AI cartridges. I had the same issue that I could not get powder and the other was that H4831 and H4350 meter crap in my powder measure. I had hoped H100V would be better - but no go. A single grain is just too big and weights too much...

Your right Berger does list the 95 with H100V at 41 Hodgdon list the standard .243 at 43.7C with a 100gr........
So far im not impressed but will be back out at the Range either Saturday morning or Monday.............

My son shot a Black Bear using 48.5gr of RL19 and the 95gr Berger last fall in the .243 AI The bear was ranged at 211 yards and he dropped him in his tracks......... shreaded the lungs. I was impressed.

I will be messing with bullet seatind depth using 46.5 gr of H100V we will see......................I will post the results.

You would do well to back off the load somewhat before varying your seating depth. With loads close to max, seating the bullet deeper will raise pressure by reducing case volume. Seating longer and "jamming" the bullet will raise pressure too. Once you have found the optimum "jump" value, you can stick with it as you raise up the charge value in smaller increments.

Good advice..............the heavyer chardges are with the bullet seated deeper. I might just pull those bullets and take your advice.
Im going to see if I cant get some H414 Im using Lapua cases I have fire formed.

What other powders have you used in your AI

I shoot 45 gr H4350 with 95 SMK with about .05 jump. Smk seem to like to jump. and some H380 with 80 grain noslers. seated about .005 off the lands. H414 seems to b my go to powder. I got 8lbs of 414 I was going to sell 4lbs but I don't know I might keep.
