What's yer .308 rifle?

10x Custom .308 1:10 Hart Barrel 26" + muzzle brake, HS precision stock, Vortex Viper PST MRAD 4-16x50

The group below is 9 rounds of 168gr and 175gr FGMM--stupid flyer. But I love having 8 rounds of two different bullet weights with almost the same POI!

I've also had 2 of the Remington 5R mil-specs that were phenomenal shooters, and an SPS AAC that I put in an LTR stock that was a shooter as well.

As boring and "slow" as the round is, I can't get away from always having one.

This is just a 'Simple Hunting Rifle' with a Vari-X III 4.5x14x50MM with a Hart barrel but it is one of the most accurate .308 Winchester rifles I've ever owned other than my Palma rifle. I've shot several 5 round groups with it back at 800 yards using either the Sierra Palma 155 gr. bullet or either the Nosler 150 gr. AccuBond that I could cover with the palm of my hand. A couple of bull elk whose whackers hit the dirt after taking two steps thought highly of it also and I've forgotten just how many whitetail bucks it has sent into my frying pan! I pillar-bedded it into this stock a few years back and it's still going strong!:)

I only have one 308. It was the first new rifle I ever bought. Everyone who as ever shot it loves it. The smiles on there faces when they shoot it are priceless. I know it blasphemy on here , it's a Springfield M1A! :D:D

THAT is one FINE LOOKING SHOOTER!
Got one almost like it but in 6.5x47 Lapua.

Hey like that 6.5x47 as well!
jealous of your scope though!

I've been thinking about upgrading the .308 scope to an NF SHV
and moving the 6-24 PST over to a new .284 build I hope to have done soon.

Gentlemen,

Very nice bolt guns. I keep hearing the praises for 5R rifling. The new hexagonal barrel for my Savage 99 C will have a Boots Obermeyer 5R barrel if the seller ever sends it to me.

Finding a way to free float the forearm is my goal. I think Wenig is amenable to running a steel tube attached to the receiver and inside the laminated forearm.

MODEL 88 WINCHESTER!

Boy, that is a collectable lever rifle and a nice looking one too Pa Grizz. Congrats.

As a boy I used to drool over 88s in the Sears catalog (yep, Sears). And the Winchester model 100 was its semi-auto brother.

Desertbull, that is a very nice and very accurate custom rifle.
