Been working at taking my 22 rimfire to 500 yards. So this morning finally got a day with hardly any wind. Cool but not cold , got set at 100 , moved to 200 things were going pretty good. Had about 1" vertical but getting some horizontal stringing. Wind was coming up a little, so I figured if I had settings for distance I could come back on a still day. Got out to 250 and ran out of elevation. 20 MOA rail wasn't cutting it. Picked up a 40 MOA rail and retired to the reloading room. Took out the first 3 screws on the base , all good, last screw strips out. Took a 3MM EZ out and got the last screw out. Ready to try again. Starting from scratch.

I'm amazed how much drop a standard velocity 22 round has. As near as I can figure out ( according to Eley ) at 500 yards the bullet is at 188 inches above the line of sight.

I used to do some bowling pin shoots. To reduce time and recover from recoil, I loaded my 45's down. So I wouldn't have to change springs , I shot the same ammo for Bullseye. At 50 feet indoors you could see them fly. You would lose them when they got away from the white background.

Man 500 yards with a 22 is something. A couple months ago, I was working out to 300 yards with some Eley Club ammo. It was humbling. 100 and 200 no problem, but 48 MOA at 300 yds. Variable winds were beating me bad. Two hits out of twenty. Could see my impacts in the berm dancing all around the gong. LOL Have fun with it and good luck!

I had a light breeze from about 11 o clock, less than 10MPH but over 5MPH and it was moving the poi about a foot at 300 yards.

Had similar wind velocities, 5 gusting to about 12, but at 3 o'clock. Never shot that far with it before. 200 came so easy. I'll keep trying, but certainly makes you deal with the wind and teaches you to read it better.

I think it's a blast, but with Wisconsin weather it's tough to get range time. The mirage and wind are killers. Range opens at 9 and they are both working against you already.
