Weathermate 350 setup

I just purchased a WindMate 350 and had a question on setup for the barometric pressure and altitude settings. It states in the instructions to either use the barometric pressure from you local weather source, mine would be NOAA here in Amarillo; or enter the elevation at a know height, which I would use my GPS unit for. So for the long range guy which would be best? Also I surmise that every time I change locations I would need to reset the unit, correct? If so seems to me that setting the elevation via GPS would be best. Also what would be a good rule of thumb for a minimum amount of elevation change which would necessitate a change on the WindMate 350.

If it makes a difference, 300WSM shooting 185gr Berger VLD hunting, 2984 MV 10' from muzzle, ranges desired out to 1,200 yards.
